I found that on twitter. It says: "in 4 years, have spurs really improved?"

my opinion (it's hard to say becouse of rotating positions but..):

Lloris > Gomes
BAE = BAE
Dawson = Dawson
Vertonghen < King
Sandro > Huddelston
Dembele < Modric
Bale = Bale
Lennon = Lennon
Siggy < Berbatov
Defoe = Keane

2012/2013 < 2008/2009

Spurs haven't improved :(

Your thoughts?

yeah you are right.

- today's Bale > 2008 Bale
- it's hard to say about Defoe and Keane. at the start of the season Defoe was really good.

but ye, that's why forums exists. asking u for your opinion ;)

I honestly believe Spurs are a working progress. Think about it we were never able to cope in both competitions effectively before. I think AVB has rotated the squad will and with better quality players we can push on.

Present team is better balanced. I'd have King, Berba, Modric and maybe Keane from the other team to add to it though.

Eh? We competed in a much higher quality competition and were 4th in the league for the most time. Hardly any different to now is it?

I think we have improved. In 2007/08 we finished 11th then 08/09 we finished 8th. Since then we've finished 4th, 5th, 4th and are currently 4th.

Didn't Berbatov and Keane leave at the beginning of the 08/09 season? I don't think Modric ever played with Berbatov for more than a couple of games if ever.

We have struggled to replace Berbatov and our lack of quality strikers since has stopped us reach our full potential. But overall we are clearly better.

This team NEVER played together in 2008, Keane was gone before July and Berbatov never played a game before he was sold.

If you want to compare our current squad with the 2008/2009 squad then a more accurate reflection of our team would've looked more like this:

Gomes

Corluka
Woodgate
King
Bale

Lennon
Palacios
Jenas
Modric

Pav
Defoe

Subs (Cudicini, Hutton, Dawson, Huddlestone, Bentley, Keane, Bent).

I think our current squad is a massive improvement on this squad and I'm sure most people would agree.

In 2008 we'd get beat regularly away from home and never beat a 'top 4 side' home or away. Compare that to the last 2 seasons and I now feel on our day we can beat anyone home or away.

More confidence and belief in this side. We go behind we often now get back into games. In 2008 heads would drop when conceded first goal.

This whole thread is bogus because one team we're comparing the current team to one that never actually existed.

Putting down 11 randomly selected players of then and now is just way to simplistic to answer whether we have improved or not.

For a start, as others have pointed out, the 2008 team includes players who never actually played with one another.

Secondly, listing individual players for, say, the defence, and then comparing, is a bit misleading: the best option for the present team would include Kaboul, IMHO (for all Dawson's heroics last night). Is a defensive unit of Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, BAE better, and does it have more potential, than Gomes, Corluka, King, Dawson, BAE? I would have to answer <YES> on both counts.

Thirdly, as alluded to, above, potential is an important factor, and even as the 2008 team stands, I would say that the potential was not as great.

Fourthly, I am not just going to judge whether we have improved or not based on a (misleading) list of 11 players. I want to take other factors into account. Not only is our squad younger and with greater potential, but our project is much further advanced. The youth set-up has continued to improve, and both in terms of personnel and in terms of performance, is better than it was then. We now have the training facilities of a top team, and we have started preliminary work on a new stadium - both improvements on the situation in 2008.

Fifthly, you have made no comparison of management: Wandery Ramos was highly related and I, for one, was excited at the prospect of hiring him...but, I in retrospect, I feel that he would have been more appropriate for the stage we are at in our project now, than then, his language skills (or lack thereof) didn't help, and AVB just plain has more potential. That's just my opinion, of course, and this time next year we could be hanging little ginger-bearded burning mannequins off lamp-posts :eek:

We are in a better position today as far as I am concerned.
