No one is saying we could replace Kane with a similar standard of player, that’s impossible.
But we should at least try and get the best striker we can.
And I’m not sure why you keep banging the GLC drum, he’s not wanted to be here for years, just because he had a positive 45 minutes in a pre season friendly people are purring over him, he needs to do much more.

Personally i think Brazil's number 9 is perfectly fine as a replacement. I would focus on getting a younger version of Richy as backup.

I'm not banging the GLC drum, it is just an example of a player who could benefit from playing with Richy. I could easily have said Sarr or Tanguy. None of us know which players are going to be around come the end of the transfer window.

I don’t really understand all this ‘if Kane goes hopefully we can get him back in 3 years’.
Personally I’d love Kane to stay and sign a new deal however, if he goes I hope to god we’re not in a position where we need him back in 3-4 years time. It’s such a small time way of thinking and rarely works.

I'd be disappointed in him if he wanted to go to a serial domestic winner just so he could win the trophy or 2 that they'd win every season with or without him but whatever, better that than him going to a league rival for nothing in a year.
I don't think Kane wants to go to Bayern to win Bundesliga titles.

I think he wants to go to a team who has ambitions of bigger titles - even if they are not guaranteed.

This really should not be controversial.

We are not going to find a like-for-like replacement. We are going to give Richarlison the first chance to claim that spot.

We can continue to create chances without Kane, and we will find players at 5 positions who can all provide some goal involvement.

Per Ali Gold - following up on earlier speculation:

Harry Kane will not sign a new contract with Tottenham this summer but extending his deal is still an option he is open to if he remains in N17 and the club is making progress under Ange Postecoglou, football.london understands.

Look at the recent history of Brazil number 9’s
Jesus
Richarlison
Fred

For whatever reason they’ve not produced a world class centre forward for years, just because he’s Brazilian doesn’t make him good enough.

You’re not wrong, but City have won the league the season before last playing without a top class #9, Arsenal came close last year with Jesus. We do not need a striker of Kane’s quality to challenge for trophies and/ or qualify for the CL.

Richarlison is a good enough player to do that, and crucially allows us to play in a way that will create more chances for other players to score by providing a threat in behind and high intensity pressing.

Can’t take the risk. Got to sell him. He signs precontract in January.

Gold is the mouthpiece of the club.

Wouldn’t expect him to say any different.

It’s a massive risk to bank on Kane signing a new deal mid season.

We’re pretty small time

Mira what we’ve been reduced to under Enic

We need multiple players capable of double figures really. I do think Richarlison can do that, as can Son and Maddison. I think we need at least one more scorer on top. I think Kulusevski could be capable and maybe Soloman. However we definitely need to increase those odds by getting a new centre forward too of Kane goes. There's no doubt the style that Ange plays will provide goals all over. We've seen Brighton outscore us and Newcastle only 2 goals behind without a Kane level forward.

Good to see that Gold is sticking to his original info.

Jacobs being creative with his language it seems.

Also Tottenham fans: "Can't try to keep greatest ever product because it's too risky and we might look silly to other people"

Lots of risk - a pre-contract is not one of them.

As I understand it - a pre-contract is only available to non-PL clubs. And, if Kane is still here in January, he won't limit himself to non-PL clubs, when he could sign with anyone next summer.

But, an absolute risk that Kane leaves next summer - so, Levy will have to weigh that carefully.

To play devil's advocate, I don't see why they're contradictory, assuming I understand that mess of a (deliberate) first line

Surely, if we think he won't sign a new contract (and on balance I don't think he will, even if we're in the CL) would a daring thing not be to get top dollar, and invest heavily in a better TEAM, with a view on this season and the future?

Not saying either scenario is easy or obvious, but this idea that we have to keep him is too simplistic IMO. There are arguments both ways

If Kane is sold, the agenda should be to find a player/players who can thrive in Ange's system rather than spending time looking for the next Harry Kane. Simply put, he's a one in a generation type of player and we'll miss him greatly. With that said, we brought in Ange because his system emphasizes attacking intent without being over reliant on a single attacking player.

Call me naive, but I actually think that if we can hold firm through the summer we've got as good a chance as we could get of him signing an extension once the window closes. Provided of course that Ange works his magic and the results go the way we all hope. I just think that it might give him pause to really think about it, and putting all the factors together why not stay? Optimistic, I know.

Jesus - so the main striker for a team that nearly won the PL last season?
Fred - going back a fair amount in time here. If we're doing that then you should also add:
Fabiano - who with Sevilla won the Cop del Rey twice, the UEFA cup twice, the Supercopa and the UEFA Super Cup.

And there's Liverpool's number 9, who to be fair is really a false 9 (not too dissimilar to Kane at times in that regard) but who has mostly worn 21 or 20 for Brazil, but is no less of a Kane for Brazil equivalent because of that.
