Could harry break jimmy's record for us?

It'll be bloody difficult. Harry will have to not lose form and stay injury free.

In his 9 years with us jimmy averaged just under 25 league goals a season. He also averaged just under 30 goals a season in all competitions.

In Harry's first three full seasons with us he averaged 25 league goals a season and 32 goals in all competitions.

This season he has started the same way, so he needs to keep this up until he's 30 in order to surpass Jimmy's record.

And that, for our younger readers, is how bloody good Jimmy Greaves was.

3 golden boots on the trot.
6 golden boots in total.
All time top goal scorer in the top flight with 357 goals.
Scored 266 for us.
430 in 566 games for all clubs and competitions.
44 goals in 57 gamesfor england.
Record for most hattricks for england 6 in all.
Only this year pipped by ronaldo as the top scorer in europe and the biggest 5 leagues (messi still behind).

Simply one of the greatest players to every play in this country.

This was a great moment for both guys, I'm sure. And Harry's comments (presumably) afterwards about wanting to be a one club man. If that does happen, he has a great chance of breaking Jimmy's record.

Not wanting to do down MY Jimmy but also remember there were 42 league matches a season back in those days, physio back then was the magic sponge and training was not what it is now and diet was stodge and chips followed by beer.

I remember Terry Venables story about when he started out at Spurs Jimmy gave him a lift to the game and on the way they stopped for dinner in Ilford.
Venables ordered chicken and Jimmy praised him for a good pre match diet then ordered full roast dinner for himself and went on to score four goals.:)

I reckon you have that the wrong way round . Later years was 8 , early years was 10 .
That's my memory too. When Jimmy arrived from Milan, John White had the No. 8 shirt. Only after John's demise did Jimmy wear the No.8 for Tottenham.
1961 team was mainly: Brown Baker Henry Blanchflower Norman Mackay Jones White Smith Allen and Dyson (One to Eleven)
1962 Cup Final: Brown Baker Henry Blanchflower Norman Mackay Medwin White Smith Greaves and Jones (One to Eleven), though Allen tended to alternate with Smith after Greaves' arrival and Dyson often played on the left wing with Medwin replaced by Jones on the right.

I have a replica of the no.10 1962 kit, i love it. Its lilywhite through and through, one of the best kits i think. It'll be hard to beat that team filled with greats that dont get a lookin nowadays like John White. But Jimmys record is astounding, imagine shearers prolific scoring but with an extra 20% more goals in a similar number of games and doing it on a pitch like your local park not the snooker table pitches we have now.... true genius
