We need the right striker though. We can't have another Janssen/Nkoudou/N'jie situation where if he's no good we struggle to shift him.

I think by keeping the fee as low as discussed we should be fine. If he's a bust we would still get close to recouping €10-15 from a french team in a couple of years.

The only underwhelming thing would be signing nobody. Yes he isn't as flashy as others we're linked to, but he's 10000000x better than having no one behind Kane.

100000% agree with this. I would love a flashy link that is a player that could perform now and in the future if the worse was to happen and Kane leaves, but for the overall squad - this guy is better than nobody and I could see him chipping in with important goals.

True, but we are better than that. Or is it wrong expectations to believe spurs is a club to push for better.

Expectation Vs Reality.

I expect all sorts, the reality is I'm lucky if 50% of what I expect comes through in regards to Spurs, which leads us all onto a discussion/debate that is better saved for other threads.

He is our primary target and I think we will sign him eventually... All these edoward, daka, belotti links are not true I think ....

Milik, Diallo and Deeney - I think these three are our primary targets and we will sign one of them ...

I think he's underrated by some on here. Similar to my opinion of Sangare. Hard to judge the best player on a very bad team. That said for a top 6 fighting PL side he is probably the biggest gamble of those we have been linked with.

Maybe the biggest gamble talent wise but I'm not sure of that. I have a sneaking suspicion that if he were to go to someone like Southampton, in a couple of season's time we'd be kicking ourselves for missing out. I like that he's a proper 9 since we have an abundance of wide players now, and I also like that he actively wants to come here and play the back up/competition role (unlike Milik for example). He seems to have all the attributes we need at a reasonable price and won't upset the apple cart. He also looks like he'd do well if Kane dropped a little deeper from time to time. I'd have him in a heartbeat but maybe our continual failings to get this problem sorted have made me twitchy, but all told, I'd be much happier with him than several we've been linked to.

The problem with that is that French teams wont pay PL level wages.

Still believe that Diallo could be a good option though.

TBH there is no reason for us not to just increase his wages by a bit. For example from 10k to 30k. Big win for the player and not out of control. Can't really lose then.

Crap source but...

Depends who has written it in the Sun. seems like a likely deal for us to do doesn’t it?
It was by Alan Nixon who is a good journo and was first on our Watkins interest, even if that went tits up. His actual claim is that King is who we are looking at but we are speaking to Diallo as plan B.

"Tottenham are now looking into a move after missing out on Ollie Watkins, who has joined Aston Villa.

King can cover for Harry Kane or play out wide, making him ideal if the price is right.

Villa, Fulham and Everton are also short-listing King should the Norwegian, 28, be available in the £15m range.

Spurs are in talks with Habib Diallo at French club Metz as a potential alternative.

The speedy Senegalese forward, 25, would cost Spurs £13m."

Looks a much better deal than Vinicius if the figures are anywhere near accurate. If anything, I'd say Diallo has a better first touch and is also a very composed finisher. We also wouldn't have to shell out a fortune to Jorge 'effing' Mendes.

What about the fact that his strike rate in a similar strength league is considerable worse?

I think that article sounds pretty realistic to me. That’s the market we’re going to be in.

Yep, it all sounds more than plausible. If we manage to sell a couple of fringe players who is to say we wouldn’t go for both towards the end of the window if those are the prices. King gives cover up front and out wide and diallo up front. That would give us a lot of good options with the amount of games we have coming up.
