What about Hamsik? He's capable of playing anywhere across attacking midfield, so he'd fill our needs and would probably be worth the cost - transfermarkt has his value at 40m and they generally undervalue the top players relative to what the market actually pays. I don't recall seeing him linked to us in the press or by any ITK so he fits those criteria as well. The only thing is that he's 26 and I'd be surprised if the target were not a younger player.

It's not hard to see Napoli accepting a bid of 50m and him deciding not to leave. They had a fantastic season last year and although they lost Cavani they did very well in the summer window to replace him. Benitez has them flying at the moment so if Hamsik was in fact the target then it doesn't look likely that he'll have any interest in leaving come January.

Could be Reus. As Borusia project could be on the down with Lewandowski leaving for free this summer.
So maybe he could want to leave this ship. He obviously won't go to Bayern so that leaves Spain or England as possible destiantions. If he wants good team where he would be in starting 11 every week Tottenham is the place.

I can't see it being Hamsik either, we have a few of those type of players and as you say now that Napoli are flying in the league they would keep hold of him.

While I certainly admit my theory about Aguero is a shot in the dark, I don't see how Reus is any more plausible. He's at a stronger club, his boyhood favored club, and he just got there. The only basis I can see is his youth and wages. Aguero is at a club he has no loyalty to and is known to be unhappy in the area. Can someone explain a better rationale for why Reus is being mentioned so much?

For £50m i can see Dortmund selling if he is willing to leave, that would be a massive mark up on what they paid for him, think it was £18m, City on the other hand would be selling their star striker to a team that has strengthened considerably for £5m or so more than they paid for him.
If we got Aguero then we would be serious title contenders, Man City must know this, i can't see a deal here at all..

They're not bothered about FFP otherwise I'd suggest that could be a reason. Got that roundabout funding scheme going on...

I realise that City funding is from their thin air through the back door scheme, the point was really based around getting only a few £5m more, leaving them without a top class player and a rival in the same league with said top class player, i am sure they could go and buy another for the same cash, but in doing so, as i have stated they would have seriously strengthened another EPL club.

Aguero = Crazy talk

Sorry mate, I still can't agree Aguero is a crazier option. Wanna know a great way to infuriate your fans? Sell your two best players a year after reaching the CL final (three if you wanna include Gotze). Believe you me, I think Aguero is a far stretch for the reasons you cited, but I think hoping for Reus is ludicrous.

Also as Lewandowski is leaving for free, IF, and it is a very big if, they decided to sell Reus for 50 mil, they could use that money to replace both players well, if looking in the right places which BVB are very good at doing.

This is frankly the most solid point made for Reus I've seen yet.

I'm going to say Falcao...wasting his time in Monaco...knows it...makes sense that no-one would guess...makes sense we'd be trying to do that without any of the Utd's, etc, knowing...I have no clue of course, but that's where my dice would be rolled...

The only, and I emphasise only, positive spin I can put on this '£50m player' suggestion is that when we have cantered into the top 4 next May, such a player might actually think for a moment or two before saying 'I want double those wages' and 'my agent is talking to Chelsea'.

I prefer that we continue our sensible yet exciting recruitment policy...

Also ITK said he wants to see club position in January and funny enough Lewandowski can sign with another club on 2nd January before moving for free in the summer. Dortumund does have low wages which is main reason they are loosing players. They also aren't rich and 50 mil would be alot for them to refuse. I tink only competition for Reus would be Man U.

Maybe man u but I expect us on current form to be in a better bargaining position than them if so. All have the possibility of being why would they this and that but clearly people in here believe reus is attainable?!

I think we should take that £50m and spend a fair chunk of it on the back 4..

IDK about that our defence looks good so far. Also we will be getting Kaboul back who can play CB and RB. Kaboul was 2nd best defender in league 2 season ago IMO. All we need is experienced LB. If we can get Reus for 50 mil we go for it as we just sold worse player who can do similar things for 86mil.

With Dawson looking shaky and Younes with his injury problems i think we should go and buy a real top defender, agree about Left back, Rose needs a decent player to rotate with.

Apparently Liverpool are intrested in Javier Pastore after his agent admited that he isn't happy at PSG. Could it be that we knew that with Andre's connections to PSG? He was sold to PSG for 42 mil € so they would want their money back but I am not sure he is worth 50 mil but surely would command big fee.

Liverpool are ready to launch a January bid for PSG playmaker Javier Pastore after the player’s agent admitted his client has grown unhappy with life in France. (Metro)

I agree, not worth £50m at all.

Yes but makes more sense then Reus. As I understand he has abit of ? over his head as he didn't really preform great for PSG so maybe bigger clubs wouldn't be in for him. Also he is Argentinian so it would be easier for Lamela to settle in.
