With Sigurdsson coming in, I can only help but wonder is there no place for VDV in AVB's team?????

He is somewhat a luxury player with his lack of fitness and limited physical attributes, along with being incapable of making a good tackle.

So can someone please re-assure me? As Rafa has been one of my most favourite players of our recent era.. Can Gylfi play on the wing as well as behind the striker???

If it is goodbye it will be because AVB doesn't see a place for him. I don't believe all this talk that he wants to go back to Germany. He seems to love it here. I think he will be here for the coming season but after that who knows.

I see sig as an upgrade on Kranjcar not a replacement for VDV, at least not yet maybe in a coupe of years. However the most pertinent thing in my opinion is our new gaffer seems to subscribe to the idea that modern football is a squad game so I can see a place in our team/squad for both Sig and VDV.

OP I know we haven't been familiar with the concept of squad rotation under Harry but it does exist. Why do you think 1 player coming in means another is leaving?

I'm keen on getting Sig to replace Krancjar, but he's simply not fit to lace Rafa's boots.

Rafa is one of only 3 genuinely world class players we have at the club, and the other 2 (King and Modric) are likely out of here.

The team should be built around Rafa.

100% don't understand any of this VDV exit talk coming out of Spurs fans, opposing team fans etc etc. A couple of fucking shite articles about him going to Schalke and BANG, we get months of nonsense about him leaving. The things that are clear to me are...

- him and his wife love London
- he is one of our top 3 players in quality and experience
- there has never been any direct quote about him wanting to leave right now
- Sigurdsson deal shouldn't affect things at all

Did we get rid of Huddlestone because we got Modric ?
Sandro because we got Parker ?

AVB will be far more open to rotation than Harry ever was, so we are trying to build a quality squad, not bring in one good younger player and move on one very very good experienced player.

Vdv is probably one of the few besides modric that will be able to understand and have the technical ability carry out avb's tactics in our squad. But his mouth is probably as big as harry's... Jury is out on this one

Don't see VdV leaving this year, maybe next summer and go back to Ajax but not now, he still has a couple good seasons left in him.

We should buy SWP, KJH and RVP. Then have a front line of SWP, VDV, KJH and RVP, managed by AVB. In fact all our players should be known by three initials, any other famous ones? Lets buy em all.

This thinking is definitely a hangover from Redknapp days. His lack of rotating effectively has messed with our brains so much.

Sigurddson will come in, he will add the the squad and there's no requirement to sell any overseas player to accomodate him either.

vdv loves spurs and is a true world class player , surely he will be one of the first names on the team sheet
would be so gutted if we sold him , for me he has been the best player we have had since ginola
he is a proper spurs player

You want a team that runs out f energy at sixty minutes?

Come on its true, he does. Anyway I am averse to building a team around any player, what happens when he is injured for 6 months?

VDV is a good player, but he is rarely a game controller if ever. Not the player to build a team around.

I seem to remember VDV complaining about how complicated things were under Jose and how he enjoyed the freedom harry afforded him.
will the appointment of AVB lead VDV to consider his options? or did i misinterpret his feelings towards tactical preperation

The hell? You've jumped the shark there. He can control a game and crucially, win a game. No player, save Messi is good enough to build a team around and those kind of teams are always weak and will ultimately fail. Much better to have a system/systems and fit suitable players into it.

And him only lasting 60 minutes isn't true either.

Still lame I'm afraid.

What you say is true but I don't think it's a deal-breaker. I also remember things and VDV left RM because he wasn't going to get any games. He didn't leave RM to come to Spurs just because things were a little tough at RM or he really liked chicken badge. He was surplus to requirements, for whatever reason. RM can afford to jettison players like VDV on a whim.

Now, I'm not actually convinced that VDV will be an integral part of AVB's plans. I'm not so sure he'll view him as a player whose talents could be so easily ignored either though.

He's a very hard worker, a damn good finisher (save a couple of excruciatingly obvious misses last season), has a good attitude and isn't afraid to role up his sleeves now and then and even put a foot in when required. Couple that with a touch every bit as good as the great ball-washed midget Modric and a real quality of vision unmatched by anyone else at the club in the final third of the pitch and he'll land on his feet whatever happens.

Well I must be getting old, I never heard of jumping a shark!

Wasn't my original post, although tongue in cheek, clear that I didn't think building a team around a player was wrong?

I am not going to get into a tit for tat argument about his stamina, I don't rate it, like many on match day when he is knackeref.

I have honestly never seen VDV control a game, maybe because I remember Hoddle doing it properly.

Any player that scores a goal can win a game, bloody hell.

we've been used to seeing rafa as an attacking mid but maybe he could drop back into a cm2/3 as he does for holland (depending on modric situ)

if he leaves it will show avb is a numpty, i love the fat slug ,i really do:coffee:

He was talking about Manuel Pelligrini, Jose had just taken over (pre season).

The president forced him out, the fans and Jose wanted him to stay.
