So just looking at the league table and our goal difference is quite frankly awful. But is it a case of us not scoring enough or conceeding too many? Or Both?
Looking at the teams immediately above and below us tells quite an interesting story.
We have scored less than all but the 8th/9th/10th teams.
But conceeded more than all other teams in the top 10 barring Swansea who have conceeded the same.
So question is. tighten up at the back. Or score more goals.

to be honest - the goals conceded are probably skewed due to big losses v Chelsea, Liverpool and City. Whereas we have not had any big wins this season - even the chelsea game where we scored 5, we conceded 3.......
The only games where we have won by more than 1 goal were the 4-0 win v qpr and the 5-3 v chelsea.

therefore the GD is more down to the fact that we are not scoring enough - IMO.

Most people have said it but we don't put teams to the sword enough winning by two clear goals. As mentioned Man City, Chavski and Liverpool have given us a bashing. We really need a good formula for playing at home against the weaker teams.

Not scoring enough. If only had more than 1 striker who can score :(

Both. We aren't scoring a huge amount of goals, and we are always liable to concede it seems.

Need to keep improving across the board.

It's been a while since we were even close in GD to the teams above us ... and I don't mean at the start of the season

Not really surprising when our 'best' defence contains 3 clowns and one who is prone to switching off when the going gets tough.

We seem to miss quite a few sitters, and never put games to bed. That means that all it takes is one mistake, and our opponents are back in it. Which leads to another phase of chasing a single goal. The PL is all about making momentum count. No matter which two teams play, there are rarely games where one of the teams are pummeled for 90 minutes.

Also, we're absolutely hopeless at counter attacks. The Liverpool side of last year were experts at getting the first goal (often through a set piece or Suarez magic and then pick teams off on the counter. We seem absolutely incapable of doing that.

We need to get that cut-throat mentality, where we just bombard teams to get more goals. We seem to score 1 and then take our foot off the gas. Tbh I find it quite arrogant. If we carry on doing it we will never win anything

Both, we're definitely not scoring enough goals and our defence leaks far to many goals. It might be cheaper to sort out the defence and we surely have to either or both.

I think the defence is a symptom of the blunt attack. We can go through games controlling possession and creating chance after chance but if we fail to put the game away then the opposition will always feel like they can get something out of the game.

Consider you are 3-0 up with 10 minutes left. The likelihood is the opposition will not put up too much of a fight and you could go on and score more. If on the other hand you are 1-0 up at the same time the opposition will always feel like they have a chance and will throw everything at you to get a goal.

So we don't score enough so therefore we concede more. interesting.
