Dier does look a lot fitter of late but I was thinking who are the CBS behind our main ones for England and what are our options?

Our options are Gomez, Maguire, Dier, Stones, Mings and Tomori.

It isn't bad but I think it's the weakest area of the team, none of them are particularly outstanding.

Dier and Maguire our of that lot for me, we have pace in abundance at full-back. I really want to like Stones, but every time I watch him it’s just awful.

Which is mad as for years it was the strongest position with Terry, Campbell, Ferdinand, King, Carragher etc

And no outstanding defensive midfielder in front of them.

Rest of the team looks really strong though. Multiple quality options in every position.

He needs a move. It really wouldn't surprise me if Leicester make a move for him. Morgan out of contract soon and Evans not getting any younger, it would make sense.

Sane's much rumoured move to Bayern seems to have finally gone through.

Whilst I don't think it's the main reason for their little drop off this season, nor would I say in individual terms he would be one of the critical players, whenever I have watched City over the last few seasons I have always felt their team looks best balanced with him on the left. Offered them a different dimension playing as more of a proper winger and able to stretch the opposition with the threat of him running in behind, it also opened up space inside for the likes of Silva and they had the best combination and link up.

City were definitely most dangerous when they had Sane and Sterling stretching play on both flanks, it gave the striker and the two creative midfielders acres of space to work in and Sane not featuring this last year has definitely compressed that space because they didn't have an out and out wide man to replace him with.

But I also agree that the main reason for the drop off is their central defensive issues rather than missing Sane.

I think Sancho might be staying in Germany for another year. If UTD only want to spend £50m on him (and they sound arrogant in saying so), then either Sancho goes elsewhere or waits another year. He's worth quite a bit more than that even in today's market.

If ever there was a £70+ Million player, It's Sancho. He ticks most of the boxes that you would want in a young attacker. Still really upset we didn't land him when he left Man City.

IIRC I think that was more on City than us right?

A bit of both City being stubborn and ultimately game time/wages offered by Dortmund made them a more attractive destination.

Not that I blame anyone, just really bleak because of how he has turned out. At least I’ll get to enjoy him playing for the national team.

Why all the german clubs are buying english young players? Whom will we buy then ?

English academies have started to produce much more talented players, especially in terms of technical quality, which makes them more appealing.

Mainly though that some of these leagues, led by Germany, realised a few years back that it can be potentially very lucrative - they entice these youth players over with better first team opportunities/pathways (it's slowly getting better in England, but work remains to be done) for a low-ish fee, and then if the gamble works and they show something at first team level, have a good year or two and cash-rich PL clubs will usually come knocking to get them back and they make a big profit.

Plus more and more players are wising up and seeing the benefits of this route and going abroad for game time, rather than being stockpiled at PL clubs.

This is basically Dortmund's business model of late.

Liverpool strongly linked with Thiago. Always wanted him with us, there was a point a few years back where we were linked and I really thought it could happen, how times change.

Thiago is 29 years old. No resale value , Bayern will minimum want 40m for him. Plus his wage demand will be minimum 200k+ ... Levy didn't even try to buy Muenier despite he was a free agent because of resale value, so Levy won't even entertain buying Thiago

Levys biggest weakness is that he can't separate business decisions from transfers. Granted you want to make a sensible signing but sometimes it's about get the right player in.
