Brilliant business by Arsenal. Everyone was saying they were skint for cash but they have gone out and smashed our significant signing with Pepe, beat us for two targets, and now looking likely to get one of the better young LB’s in the league. As of right now, they look more likely to be top 4 than us.
I’ll take NDombele alone over the combined 4 they’ve got. They aren’t finishing above us.

Now now. A few good signings doesn't suddenly trump what we have been building for 5 years!

Everyone thought Everton were good for the top for after all their signings but it doesn't always work out.

Arsenal are dangerous and have strengthened well adding to a few already top PL players but they still have weaknesses.

Yet again Arsenal spend big money and much like United, they tend to get a big player in each transfer window. Yet for some reason they both fail to get above us and the other top 3? Why is that? Becuase they are papering over cracks to appease fans.

Look at both clubs, combine them, now build me a back four that is better than us, Liverpool or City. Can't be done (even with Maguire!) because they fail to address the defensive issues year after year. Liverpool were in the same boat a few years ago and we kept laughing at them until they decided to go and splash the sort of money you do on an attaker, on a defender...and we don't need to say anymore about how much they have benefited from that.

So yeah either Arsenal will soon realise they need to start spending big on defenders or hopefully, they will continue to splash the cash in other areas and avoiding the one area that will cost them big time year in year out.

I'm not saying Arsenal don't need Pepe and United don't need Dybala...but they are spending a lot of money on an area they are quite strong already. United will probably end up getting Maguire and he will improve them massively but then maybe they won't, seems to be another big deal that is stalling.

Something a bit weird with this Pepe deal. I reckon he's not actually all that. If he was this world-beater, Lille wouldn't take ~€20m up front, it makes no sense. It seems only clubs like Napoli and Arsenal are interested. I think he will flop. Ceballos looks too light-weight as well, and he doesn't have the agility and speed-of-thought of Modric to compensate for it.

Top four will be City, Pool, us and then some other mugs, could be any of them.

I still think Chelsea will sneak top 4. Ok they don't have Hazard but they still have a very good squad and always grind out good results. Think they will edge the other two.

But yeah I agree with regards to Pepe, got to be a reason why some of the bigger clubs weren't interested considering;

Bayern need a winger
PSG are always linked to high profile ligue 1 players
Madrid like to buy anything that moves
Juventus have been linked to a couple wingers this summer

But Pepe didn't really have any major links?

The way that their fans are behaving about it you'd think they'd just signed Messi.

I mentioned before that I was watching the Ligue 1 review with opinions from commentators and journalists and Pepe barely got a mention. They spoke more about Rafael Leao, so may be Lille are happy in the knowledge they have Leao - maybe they rate him more?!

I also saw that GFF guy on AFTV and he said Pepe is quite raw. I thought that's not great for a 24 year old, as you generally need to be past the raw stage especially if you're coming to the PL. He may be a success but I also think there's a high chance he'll flop too. They should have spent that money on Zaha, he's a better player, he's not raw and he's well used to the league.

They were also laughing at United cause United got James and not Pepe. Well, there's a lot less risk attached to that James deal and again he's proven in English football.

As I said they are getting well ahead of themselves

Last night I saw a lot of Arse fans on twitter getting excited about being linked with Umtiti. Still yet to see any form of a credible link but their fans are (as usual) getting way ahead of themselves.

Have seen a couple of links for Umtiti to United which would make sense. I feel like he hasn't set the world alight at Barca (willing to be corrected) but would do a good job at United especially with Bailly out.

I would love us to play against that team so much, we'd beat them 4/5-0. It's so soft in the centre. They won't get Umtiti anyway. They've gone from #WeCareDoYou to top two challengers, truly the most bizarre bunch of freaks going.

As you lot are so obsessed with nads!

I'll put mine on the line and say I don't expect him to be a success in this league. He relies too much on being given space, which he won't get in the Premiership. I could be wrong, but that is my gut feeling with him.

Umtiti definitely would play LCB.

On paper that team does look strong. Perhaps they will push for it and can’t afford it. A last hurrah before sinking into mid-table after haemorrhaging too much money.

I love that their "dream team" still isn't as strong as this team:

Lloris
Foyth - Toby - Jan - Rose
Winks - Ndombele
Dele - Eriksen - Son
Kane

And that's without us making any signings between now and the end of the window.

Villa needed to sign loads of players though as their promotion team was heavily influenced by loan players. It's costing them a fortune to get a team as good as the one that got promoted without actually improving on it.

I know a few of Villa's have just been signing players who were there on loan beforehand... but this still majorly strikes me as Fulham from last season and we all saw how that one ended up
The spine of their team is still pretty good apart from the centre forward Wesley, who we don’t know much about. Replacing Tammy Abraham who got 25 goals. Most of their players are British. Fulham was mainly foreign and 5 of them on last day.
