We could match City’s spending if we wanted, we have the revenue and PSR headroom to do so easily. But we don’t want to.

It just proves again that yes it is hard to do deals in January, but it’s fairly straightforward to just buy players at a the price their club wants. We just never want to pay that amount to the club or in wages.
So why won’t we pay the wages or do the deals if we can afford it?
Have we got a fantastic savings account which is racking up the interest & too good to cash in?
Has the Ndombele saga scared the shit out of us?
Is it some sort of covenant on the loan?
Every window I go into it with highish expectations that this will be the one we break the bank & as the days pass by we realise it won’t be.

It’s will and desire of the owners, simple. We have the lowest wage to turnover ratio in the league, which to everyone else is a sign of lack of ambition but to Levy is financial prudence. Our board and owner’s ambition is to make money to reinvest in capital projects to continue growing the club’s value for an eventual sale. It’s has never once been wholly focused on the on pitch product.

But anyway there are other threads for that. But looking in here it’s clear plenty of players are moving currently, so I only hope we jump on the carousel of deals that is starting to happen this week…

Chelsea's list of players who can play wide of a front 3 if they were to sign both:

  1. Pedro Neto
  2. Mykhailo Mudryk
  3. Noni Madueke
  4. Joao Felix
  5. Jadon Sancho
  6. Cole Palmer
  7. Tyrique George
  8. Alejandro Garnacho
  9. Jamie Gittens
Not sure they would have enough really.

Outside of Mudryk and George they all walk into our starting 11 currently. We're miles off it in such a key area, it's so frustrating.

Don’t forget they also got Estevao and Paez (who can also play wide) coming in.

Not sure Mudryk can play any position but Left Out, right now...

We seem to have ZRO interest in quality players from the continent that can immediately come in and start but we have to pay 50-60 plus for them.

I am worried

Not a CAA Base client, not interested. The more I hear about our ties to that agency the less I like it.

Be interesting to see how he does. Reckon he will suit the league.

One name that I've seen on Twitter to keep on an eye on because of this move is Patrick Wimmer. Wolfsburg doesn't seem to trust him, but a really effective player that can play a number of different positions. Goes under the radar but surprised with injuries on the rise, a number of clubs could use players like him in their squads. Young aswell.

He might not jump off the page but he has 17 goal contributions in about 55 90s worth of matches in the bundesliga. Really good in aerial duels and pressing. He's covered almost every position but mostly plays (in order of): RW, LW, AM, and CF. In his career he's also played some LB/RB as well. Swiss (well Austrian lol) army knife.

Same scenario as when we wouldn't cough up for Tapsoba but went for the relatively unknown Van de Ven. Other 'under the radar' signings have been Udogie, Bergvall, Kinsky who've all turned out pretty well. I think we've done OK lately identifying decent players for sensible money and hopefully that continues in this window.

It’s essentially shoe horned us into only using them as it sounds like they are also our scouting network which seems insanely negligent

Yes but simply operating like that will end up with zero success because it takes 4 or 5 windows like that to get the team you need.

Whereas succesful clubs do a few deals like this but mix it with more ambitious signings....and that's what ultimately gets them over the line.
