That is a top signing for Villa given how Martinez played in the summer. Arsenal once again leaving themselves short in one area to placate the men on big bucks.

Another injury to Leno and they're all kinds of screwed.

Agree but Martinez never really been the backup Arsenal wanted. 28 yrs old, been out on loan ever since his arrival

Grealish signed a new 5 year contract with Villa - silly boy, another Zaha that'll never be able to leave for a bigger club.

and not so long ago a player in his position - hometown club, coveted by others - would be praised for sticking around.

perspective, eh?

That's him priced out of any future moves.

Clearly no one was in for him this summer, I think he would have gone had any of the big boys seriously wanted him.

Couldn't find the Danny Rose thread so I'm sticking this here:

Read reports on the Athletic that he wasn't aware that he has not been given a number this year. I noticed that both Rose and Foyth feature in last year shirt on the home page..

Agree. I want Zaha to stay at Palace, I want Grealish to stay at Villa (now that we know we won't get either of course), the league is richer for having these players at bottom half clubs where they're treated as heroes.

Grealish just signed a new deal with Villa. Of course that means nothing since he’ll be off once Villa get relegated this year.

Kind of find it refreshing in the age where loyalty means little in football, a player is sticking with his boyhood club

Well that depends on whether he does actually intend of sticking around - if he continues to miss out on the England squad (he only was reluctantly selected by Southgate because of injuries, in a season or so, he might want that big move and, like Zaha, will find it impossible as every club will be priced out.

If his ambition is to stay at Villa and be their captain, leader and become one of their best ever players - then yes, fair play to him!

I think Villa might be alright this season. Can see WBA, West Ham, Fulham and even Sheffield United all struggling along with them. The thing going against Villa though is an incredibly tough end to the season.

Shame we never got him as I think he would give us a much better option in midfield in terms of creativity.

Yet people are convinced Kane is certain to leave next summer, despite signing a similar contract himself last year. ??‍♂️

I'm not sure. I think their owners have quite grand plans for them. They are historically a big club too, which goes a long way.

Mepham is on his way to Villa

Daniel James available for loan also apparently.

David Brooks (the forgotten man) - happy to stay at bournemouth (as only united and liverpool made enquiries but then left it can see this one coming up again when Bale and Sancho deals get sorted) - although they want north of 35 million for him.

Connor Roberts at Swansea also been enquired about by one of the newly promoted teams god knows who!

What happened to Daniel James? Did he go out the team when Greenwood came in? Didn't really follow the prem much from February onwards.

He had a flurry of games in the autumn where it looked like he might defy expectations but yeah, basically what Shady said.
