Looks like a diamond :cautious:

When it’s not working, or the balance isn’t right, 4 attackers can be clunky, but when we get it right (basically, 15-18) it overwhelmed the opposition. First was the Eriksen-Dele-Lamela of Kane dynamic, then improved with Lamela out for Son. I think that’s why we need to get Lo Celso ahead of Lucas ultimately, as without Eriksen’s brain it’s gone wrong.

god i miss Dembele ☹

Agreed, but I'd have thought it would be possible to have a kind of 4 3 1 2 formation with Dele given a bit of a roaming role in the 10 position. It also seems to me that when we have 4 attackers on the pitch they often seem to get in each other's way and there's also very few spaces for them to find because everything gets clogged up. Just the way I see it.

So basically the diamond(4-3-1-2) every was mad at Poch for? ?

Kind of depends on the balance I think. When we played before, we got too narrow with it. The two supposed wider CM’s sat almost directly infront of the DM and were too static. If they played as a slightly flatter / wider 3, but move up and down between the lines more, it would cover more ground. I actually think it could work then, with the No.10 (Alli) moving vertically more with late runs into the box, and the WF (Son) drifting side to side more, driving into the box with the ball.

That's exactly how I see it.Poch's diamond was always very narrow and we were always exploited down the flanks. With a flatter CM3 it's possible to cover the width of the pitch much easier without leaving big gaps through the middle.

If we sign Fernandes and assume we get another RB with KWP going out how close are we going to be to having problems with our home grown quota? It seems like Rose and maybe Winks are not fancied long term and possibly Dier too? Can’t really remember us being linked too strongly with too many English players other than Eze and Max Aarons, it seems Jose prefers foreign players.

Gedson doesn’t need registered until next season. Aaron’s wouldn’t either for a season or two yet. Not too sure about Eze.

Dier isn't HG, there is no requirement for homegrown players anyway. You just leave a gap in the squad if you don't have 8.

They'll announce it tomorrow.

If we win tonight - announce signing in the morning, everyone even happier.

If we lose tonight - announce signing in the morning, make everyone try and forget we lost.

:pompous:
Dumb, just announce it before the game and bring him out to the fans before or at half. We really over complicate this stuff. Unless it’s not all done which would be weird.

Stadium Announcer: “And for your halftime enjoyment, we are delighted to announce our newest signing, Gedson Fernandes! He barely started for Benfica, he used to be a highly touted prospect but not so much anymore and he most definitely does not play RB, CB, DM or Striker! Let’s give him a warm round of applause!”
