My housemate works for a football analyst company (football radar) and he is in charge of the Portugese league. Basically he watches every game (literally) and has done for a few years - he's an expert and is often featured on radio stations or podcasts for his portugese football knowledge. I asked him about Gedson F today and he said similar to that Talksport analysis. A wiry technical player who was brilliant a year ago but isn't getting in the team now as not suited to their style of play. When he has played they have put him out wide. Kind of box-to-box but not a brute by any means. Knows how to put a foot in though.. not a million miles away from Pogba in terms of style.

Hopefully he is a million miles away from Pogba in bellendishness though.

This vid shows the defensive side of his game as well. Looks a very good addition to our squad. Pacy, combative, can dribble past players, and passing range.

A very lazy comparison... though I personally feel Pogba gets a bad rap. He is a brilliant player in the correct position (United never seem to play him correctly)

In truth, Mendes has done a decent job of providing Wolves with some tidy players, some of which were not exactly household names prior to joining. If he’s going to produce similar for us, that is not a bad thing.
Ultimately if Fernandes flops, he goes back to Benfica. Not a repeat of the Nkoudou situation.

The option of 55 million just feels kinda insane. It feels like a punt where he'd have to turn out bloody awesome to be worth it. Then again, with these Mendes deals, it's hard to tell what's what.

Cleared with A&C and common knowledge but thought I would post anyway.

Recieved this message this morning....

Had a brief this morning to expect a "potential new signing" - Gedson to arrive by 1pm as he is taking a look around Hotspur Way, the ground, meeting Jose and if all goes to plan having a medical.

I'm not one for youtube scouting, but I did watch a compilation vid of GF just to see what all the fuss was about.

Couple of things stood out to my uneducated mind, and they are that he has very good balance, and seems incredible strong on the ball and in winning the ball. Oh, and he seems to favour a forward pass more often than not.

I think he would be great for us.

Not really. He's 21 now, by the end of the loan period suggested he will be approaching 23.

If he's looking like a PL top 4-quality midfielder at that point, that would more than justify a £55M price tag.

We'd have expected to get a lot more than that for Dele when he was younger than that. £55M for a midfielder fitting that bill now would be a good deal. In 18 months' time I imagine market rates will only have increased again.

Solid analysis. I've not seen too much of him but from what I have seen Id agree.

Hopefully mourinho is looking at Liverpool and the options they have in midfield. Whilst I don't think we will be setting up the same as them, we do need to have healthy options.

Liverpool have Ox, Milner, Henderson, Fabinho, Keita and Wijnaldum. When you think about the qualities of their midfielders there isn't a gulf in differences when you think about their abilities. Sure Fabinho has a better range of passing, and Wijnaldum is better attacking but they are all physical, energetic and all capable of picking good passes. Allows their engine room to maintain energy and not slow down thus taking pressure off the defence and attack. The interchanging of their attackers is certainly a strength but without this functioning midfield I think they'd be gettong beat more (at all).

Hopefully we can give ourselves more options. A midfield selection of Fernandes, Ndombele, Soumare, Bruno type could give us much more strength and stability whilst allowing our front line to focus more on quick transitions.

His passing is surprising good, not on the same level of tanguy of course. (I know, I just watch it on youtube). Maybe this surprises me because so many people on twitter say he is shite

Great points. Thought was impressed with his tenacity, anticipation of ball movement and his vision. .One concern was how often he went to ground as he might not get away with that in the EPL. Given all the above, that maybe like complaining about the mole on Cindy Crawford's face.

Not a finished product but looks like a player who can put his mark on a game with great upside.

I think most people feel his not what we need.

Anyway Jose has a good technical staff behind him and knows the Portugal market better than most so lets wait and see....really hope Skipp won't be impeded ( Also its great to see us signing players)

I'm excited by this. He was very highly rated no more than a year ago, and I think the deal suits us perfectly. We get a sorely needed body in, but won't have to pay any substantial amount of money until 2021, which hopefully gives us the opportunity to strengthen other areas of the squad.

This has been a major issue for us - simple ball retention (nevertheless at pace or not!) and forward passes

Didn't someone or a couple of people mention that he is a different type of player to Skipp?
