This is the kind of transfer I don't understand why we don't do all the time. We know that we can't consistently compete at the top end of the transfer market with the likes of City, United, Chelsea, and Liverpool. So, IMO, in addition to making the occasional top end signing we can like Ndombele, Lo Celso, and Sanchez we should be buying as many no risk lottery ticket type guys like Gedson as possible. If a couple of them work out, that's how we can keep pace with the financially superior clubs.

Our biggest ROI signings of the last 10 years have been a 19 year old from League 1 and a 20 year old Brit in Portugal who had flopped on loan at Everton. They didn't cost 10m between them and were absolutely crucial to the the Pochettino era and saved us massive money in buying others. We need to be taking as many opportunistic low risk, high reward shots as possible, hit on a couple of those every few years and you're golden.

We have done more of these, they just haven't worked out...N'Koudou, N'Jie, Stambouli, Holtby, Yedlin, the list goes on. The problem with this strategy is that they take up valuable squad places and can't be shifted on, especially problematic if they are not classed as home-grown.

That's fair, though I would consider only Holtby to be on the level of Gedson in terms of youth and pedigree. I'll never be able to explain the point of N'Koudou and N'Jie. Yedlin was pure marketing for the American audience (which Levy is always dying for) and Stambouli was Baldini scattershot I'm assuming.

N'Koudou and N'ije were the hope they turned into the next M'bappe or Martial or Lemar

People writing the lad off before he’s finished his medical. Jesus.

21, looks to be able to break lines and push forward, strong dribbler, long term loan meaning we get a proper look over the course of a season and a bit and then decide if we want to buy. What’s not to like?

We could sign Messi and some here would say they didn’t like the way the money was transferred.

After years of scouting with the demise of dembele & victor we end up taking a punt on another unproven youngster from a league we will be told he needs time to adjust to premier league from. Oh dear

Scenes when he becomes the Dembele replacement we've needed so badly...
Bit of levity or does he have that potential in his game do you think? I've no clue what sort of player he is.

Well, that's certainly one way of looking at it, I suppose...

It all depends on having good scouts!

Let’s hope he’s a well scouted player we are expecting to really go from strength to strength. Nothing better than picking up a bargain and then coming good. It’s been our MO for years and one that’s born fruit many a time.

I would have probably pronounced it Gedson with a hard G, but Jose pronounced it Jedson in his presser. I assume he'd know.

We've wanted an understudy for Eriksen for a while now but now we're replacing Eriksen with Lo Celso. Maybe this is an understudy for Lo Celso which can only be a good thing. Plus a loan means we don't use our budget for other signings this month.
Understudy to GLC means not even getting on the bench lol.

I'm pretty sure his surname is pronounced something like fernansh too, although I may be thinking of someone else...

So that's Jedson Fernansh but spelt Gedson Fernandes... (n)
