Isn't bale on £600k a week? Half of that is more than what harry is on I simply can't see this happening at all
Lets not forget, I think its been reported that maybe half of that is Bale's image rights, which Real now own. give that back then it becomes "somewhat" more workable.

Interesting exchange about this story:

I asked Andrew Gafnney (Spurs fan who lives in Spain and translates articles and shit) and he said the journalist who wrote the article is ‘very hit and miss’.

Half his wages is too much. 40+20 and 1/3 of his current wages would be an okey deal for us, but can't see either of the two other parties accepting that.

If he did come he would most likely retire here. No point for him to move abroad again and if he's good we won't sell him to another top team in the prem; can't see him playing for a midtable team either if his ability started to drop off.

This means he will have no resale value. Giving him a huge contract is a massive risk because we won't be able to shift him if things doesn't work out. But on the other hand: if he stays healthy and performs to the maximum of his potential he could win us the league.

Gut feeling says this deal won't happen, and I'm genuinly not sure whether or not I want it to.
I think what this is missing is that if he did join, his wage from us wouldn’t be his full wage. It would be an Adebayor situation where Real would still be paying him a certain amount, happy that he’s off their books. As Marca states, the question is how far Madrid are willing to go with the amount they’ll pay Bale to get him off the books. If they want him gone, they’ll have to stump something up, as no-one is paying him what he earns now if he’s turned China down.

That's true of Marca generally, but haven't they been pretty spot on with Madrid news this whole summer? Can you ask if that dynamic changes his opinion on this specific story at all?

They've only been spot on if you ignore all the stories they got wrong. Marca like most papers are very hit or miss but they are typically only spot on when Madrid want to make a lot of noise which you only really can tell when something is close to happening.

Marca running the story is certainly interesting. Suggests they might be willing to come to the table to us (or others) to cut a deal, whereas before they seemed to be set on a huge fee.

The figures used in the article don't sound like something we'd go for but it's interesting they've ran a cover story about us going for him. I'd like to think Levy is there at the table if a viable deal can be done.

I'm pretty sure Kane, Vertonghen, Alli etc would understand about his wages considering he's a 4 time champions league winner...

Footballers aren't totally oblivious and like in any job the more experienced/the more you've achieved the higher your salary is. If there's any chance at all to bring him back, we have to do it IMO.

I think we’re getting close to a squad that understands what is needed to win trophies. I think that mentality is one that comes not only from having a good squad, but most importantly about working with, and for, each other. That message that comes from Poch everyday and I am certain there’s very few in the squad (or will be come the end of the summer) who are more worried about their individual wages than they are about the success of the club overall.

I think the players you’ve mentioned, and others, would appreciate that if we brought Bale back, that would speak volumes about our ambition as a club and what the next stage of the project looks like.

I think everyone is forgetting that if Marca is indeed being fed this story, the figures don’t have to be right about what Madrid or Spurs are paying. They just need to push a story that is both plausible and face-saving for Madrid. Thus, we need not argue if the figures quoted would be acceptable to Levy because they’re probably not accurate.

If his £600k a week is true, and Real cover 50%, we're still paying a big number which will also have knock-on effects on upcoming contract renewals for the rest of the squad as well.

Anyway, Levy is a financial genius and will obviously not gamble if he isn't 100% sure about all that stuff. He has his flaws, but economics ain't one of them, so If Bale signs there will be no reason to worry about the money. But looking at it from the outside at this point in time, it's difficult to see us doing the deal.

I still think there is only a very small chance that Bale will come back, however the timing of this news combined with the news that Neymar wants out is interesting.
By all accounts Perez has been keen on Neymar for a while and maybe they believe they have a serious shot at getting him and need to shed bale to make it workable.
Or maybe i’m just clutching at straws.

Love it to happen. Still can't see it though. Isn't he with addidas? Sure they would have something to say about it.

True Baz, however even if its 180k and we pay 200k he "may" just be happy to be happy. Does someone really need that much money over happiness?
Yes I can dream ok. I'm an Aussie ok

If I were him I’d squeeze every penny I could out of my career. Life isn’t all about money, but family and friends are a factor. as well as the risk of a major injury.

Bale wont earn £300k a week from image rights with us.
Maybe, maybe not. I heard dele earns as much through image rights etc than his wages. So who knows? Bale coming back to the prem would be utter madness regarding advertising and image rights. He’s top 5/6 in the world.
