Danny Rose has said in an interview that it is Tottenham's policy to move on players after a certain age so he might be moving this summer. He is only 28 so begs the question why would we be interested in a 30 year old bale?

which doesn't look good for Lloris or Vertonghen either. think Rose's comment should of been he won't be surprised, because he has 2 years left and I don't expect the club to offer him a new 1, and after what he said last season, he wasn't offered a new one

I meant it won't matter immediately as soon as he walked through the door.

Your scenario is after a full season. Worry about getting Kane and Son's wages closer to Bale after the first season.

Fact is, we need a Bale or someone of his ilk to take us to the final level, its a statement to the players as much as anything else.

the only reason Bale will be earning more will be down to RM paying the large majority of it if he comes to us. so other players won't have the right to complain, because he might earn the same as Kane out of the wages we pay, and if those players mentioned don't understand the talent Bale is, and they want equal, they better go up a couple of gears every week

If this is doable, where do you want Bale to play in the lineup?

For me, i think a straight swap for Eriksen. Bale was great for us out wide but for me, his best season for us is when AVB played him as a no.10.

LB, definitely LB and only LB, he'll never be good further forward!

tbf, I think this is rationalization on Rose's part. But there were rumours that we thought Walker was declining fitness wise so we were not too bothered about getting rid. Rose has visibly declined from a fitness prospective. So there might be some truth in this. A fullbacks prime years tend to be mid-twenties till around thirty, wingers are the only other position to really peak earlier.

'Old' is a relative term. A 29 year old fullback is normally nearing the end of the top level at that age. A 29 goalkeeper, arguably has still to hit their peek. This normally comes in the early 30s. Only at about 35 one can consider a goalkeeper to be nearing their end. CBs don't last close to as long as goalkeepers, but their prime is normally 28-32ish.

Interestingly centre forwards in the past were seen to be at their prime mid-twenties and by thirty already past it, but in recent years the average age of a CF has skyrocketed and if you look through the leagues, top goalscorers who are out and out strikers tend to be pretty seasoned players. Some see this as a failure of coaching young players to fill that role. But I think its partly down to wingers essentially becoming wide forwards and the goal burden being shifted to the flanks. And partly because strikers having pace and strength is a little less important, as most teams don't pump hopeful balls to them, while running is mostly done by the wingers. Footballing intelligence and composure have become more important, and these tend to age well.

With this logic though I do agree that Bale does not really fit this pattern, and I highly doubt we will sign him.

An interesting piece, and I agree with much of what you say. However, IMHO, Bale breaks the mould, he's an enigma. He's fast, creative, skillful and has a fierce shot. I think he is one of those rare players who could play until nearing his fourtieth year. My reasoning being that, whilst he may slow down, his skill will remain and his experience will be invaluable.

Only he picks up a lot of injuries and pace is a big part of his game. I mean he keeps himself fit and his technique is good. But I don;t think he will go on quite that long.

However, with Bale there are also massive question marks over his professionalism.

Bale has been given a tough ride in Madrid recently, and it is overly harsh, but at the same time, its not without merit. He hasn't attempted to adapt to Spain nor to get along with his teammates. Similarly Defoe when interviewed mentioned that in his last year here he would sometimes refuse to train, ether cos he didn't fancy it or because he thought it was better for his body. But, in either case not a good sign if you are going to play for Poch.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in a heart beat. But it wouldn't be a signing without significant risk. I suspect any move will come down to it being the right deal and Bale coming in with the right motivation.

It will also show the clubs intent and will encourage more higher quality players to join Spurs

The question about his professionalism is an interesting one. I’ve never understood why he hasn’t bothered to learn Spanish if he wanted to stay at Madrid long term. His refusal to do that if I was his manager would infuriate me. It just shows a lack of commitment. I’m sure it’s probably because he’s too thick or can’t be bothered because he thinks he can get by without it. But it doesn’t really show much respect to his team mates.

You’d think it would be part of a player’s contract nowadays that they have to learn the language of the country they are playing in. If not and I was a club I would definitely make it a part of it.

Yeh but we all know Danny is “cray-cray” he probably thinks the club is like Logan’s Run and his crystal is changing colour. Or something.

He did bother to learn Spanish, it might not be perfect but it's better than mine!

I think more is made of the "not learnt Spanish" than needs to be.
As per the video above, he clearly has learnt the language. It seems that the media over there, along with one or two team-mates decided to kick shit up because maybe he isn't 100% fluent, or maybe those gobshite team-mates just don't like him.

Would have loved to see Gareth back with us.
If things are turning sour in RM and he wants to go home I really cant see a better options than spurs. Doubt Man City or Liverpool would want him. Man U is a shambles and I guess Arsenal isnt an option (dont ask me why, just e feeling). Chelsea maybe? If they still can pay stupid wages these days.

That's a staged interview. His understanding of the language is clearly way better than his ability to think and reply. So he's sort of learned the language but should be pretty much fluent by now. I suspect he finds it hard on a daily basis.

RM need to save face in the whole process as well as get rid of him. If it is a deal that suits all I'm sure Levy will be all over it.

After the lacklustre performance this season some one like Bale could have lifted the team.

As much as I'd like him back I think he'll go to United.
