As much as I hope Bale wins, I'm glad to see Carrick on there. He's one ex-Spur who I've always loved watching, even since he's been at United. He's had by far his best season there, and it's nice to see him get recognised for it. Good lad.

Bale's season didn't really kick off into top gear until his Boxing Day hat trick against Villa, to be honest. I'd think Mata, Suarez and Carrick have performed at a high level for most of the season.

While I'd absolutely love for Bale to get it, from a neutral perspective, I'd really like to see a player rewarded not based on the amount of goals and assists they've gotten. Carrick would be my completely unblinkered vote, in all honesty.

Bale should absolutely destroy the votes in Young Player of the Year though.

would you say defoe is deserving of being on there then? as he has the same amount of goals as aguero and tevez now has one more after wednesday night.

It depends - i'm not entirely sure what they mean when say year, is it calendar year or by season? If it's calendar year then I would say Aguero deserves to be on it..

Apparently The Sun did a poll for player of the year and Bale came 3rd, behind Van Persie and Suarez. Forgot to mention that this basically means more ManU and Liverpool fans read the Sun that Spurs fans.

That can only be a good thing. :)

It always makes me laugh how when SSN do their annual goalkeeper/defender/midfielder/striker of the year that Liverpool players almost always win each position. The jobless bindippers must sit there all day voting.

I somehow doubt this.

Liverpool fans would never read The S*n website or buy that rag unless their absolute idiots so this one can't be blamed on them I'm afraid. Suarez has just been the best player for the whole season.

How the hell is Bale POY? He's PO2M, player of two months. What can you recall him doing in the fall and early winter? What is he doing now?

Suarez has been much better all season, Carrick has been crucial, Michu should be on there obviously.

Looking at his performances this season, if you asked any manager in the premier league to pick one premier league player to add to their starting 11, I couldnt see many (if any) not pick Bale. I think that is reason enough for him to win it.

Based on his performances pre Feb, he had a decent chance of being nominated anyway (albeit with a small chance of winning it), based on his performances since then....

Well unless Bale decapitates someone with a rusty spoon between now and the end of the season I'd say he's got it in the bag. No matter how well Suarez has played this season his continual nastiness and general twattery means that surely nobody would consider allowing him to have this award.

I guess we wouldnt know. But if Suarez had the most votes and it later came to light the FA didnt award him then there will be serious problems.

Also find it strange how bookies are taking bets on something that has already been decided. Bookies dont get things wrong and they certainly dont when the outcome has already been decided

When is this announced? Apparently it's on the 28th

Bale did very well at the start of the season, just not as well as he's doing now. He may have had a great 2, or 3, months but has anyone been that good at the same time?

Out of interest how many of you guys foresaw Bale being this much of a success when he first joined/first few months?

I'm sure many of us were in the camp of 'yet another youth player not living up to the hype'.

I doubt many would of foreseen this transition and success for Bale.

Personally I'd say Carrick. He's been magnificent all year, some of the passes he's pulled off have been a joy to watch. Of course RVP/Bale/Suarez will win as they're the goal scorers.
