what do you mean? Like a loan from the government that each worker had to pay back? Surely not.
Not the workers the companies, that’s how Liverpool’s statement read.
The payments from HMRC under the furlough rules are grants to companies not loans, and therefore are not repayable. They are treated as income to the company and normal tax treatment applies.

Lord Sugar thinks our club is living hand to mouth :ROFLMAO:

Must mean there are League 1 clubs more profitable and financially stronger than us.

I think he's been sitting in the Florida sunshine too long.

We keep posting record profits.

We have a billionaire owner.

We are an incredibly cash rich club.

I would be surprised if the wage bill for our 550 non-playing staff would exceed £3m for 3 months - the equivalent of paying our playing staff for a week.

We can easily afford it, we’re just choosing not to, and in the process causing 550 people living in low wages in one of the most expensive cities in the world worry about paying their bills unnecessarily.

Fully aware of how furloughing works and what the business case is, before any of the junior Duncan Bannatynes on here start explaining it to me.

I just think it fucking stinks.

On a selfish note I just wish their was a backlash against the City owners with the same amount of depth but apparently being stingy over two or three million pounds deserves more anger and moral outrage that what the despot owners of city are doing regarding the workers in their country or should I say the slave workers .

You know Daniel Levy is one of those 550 people?

Really? Really? With those involved with the game globally, at the top no less, you think this one decision is going to put people off?

People banging on about morality ignoring all the dirty money that exists in this sport already and you question if people would think about throwing money at something they'd benefit from ...

The question you should be asking is if the money stays in the game if/when some semblance of normality resumes (which feels an awfully long way off as we stand currently)

Of course it will effect the brand. I saw a brand expert on Sky talking about how companies will be judged for years to come by their actions at this time. Absolutely no question this will tarnish our name more than any other single act in the last 20 years. Do you think Sports direct or Weatherspoons will trade the same after this ? This is a significant moment in history and people will remember.

Of course, you're right. We'll be lucky if we ever function again as a football team. I might just pack it in.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

But football is very different to other companies. People can take their trade from Weatherspoons to another budget pub and people can shop at other budget sport stores. Whether they will is yet to be seen.

Spurs fans will not change their allegiance and if people around the world want to watch the likes of Kane play then we'll be in demand for live games.

A lot of these predictions are partly based on consumers taking action as a group which we rarely do and businesses, such as sponsors, not wanting to deal with a football club for moral reasons rather than business ones which currently certainly isn't the norm.

I’m assuming everyone in this thread feels equally sorry for Levy taking a salary cut of £1.4m gross per year as they do for the admin staff losing £4,000 gross per year?

...is the right answer. We certainly haven't done ourselves any PR favours by doing what we've done. It's all very well for lesser clubs like Newcastle, Bournemouth and Norwich to have taken this road, but none of those clubs have generated the sorts of revenue we have over the last 12 months. When I heard what we'd done, I must admit, I felt embarrassed.

Not sure if this question is rhetorical or not.
But anyway, the answer from me is 'No'.

Are people considering the huge loan we got refinancing our new stadium?

C'mon , DL/JL are both cut from the same cloth. Their only interest is THFC , it's debatable to what extent on field but they will damn sure, make sure we are running efficiently as possible. The laws there, none of this is that immoral, its logical.

I've no idea what the figures are, but you're right that they can't be that high for the non-playing staff.

The fact that those staff are being told to take a 20% pay-cut whilst some of the richest athletes in the country don't just isn't right, whichever way you look at it.

Whether it's the club, the government or the players, it's just another example of how the mega-wealthy are so insulated from this sort of thing whilst others who have much less get hit much harder.

It hasn’t changed how I feel about the club, but then again I’m pretty cynical about our owners and haven’t held ENIC, Lewis or Levy in the high esteem that many others seem to have done.

It still fucking stinks though.
