Furloughing staff

exactly, we are meant to be a Global Brand now, how is this going to look for potential sponsors and potential Stadium Naming companies.

it's myopic penny pinching from ENIC which hurts the brand a lot more than the few millions saved
Big business is doing exactly the same - it doesn't bother them, it's business.

It really doesn’t sit right with me either and I guess is just another stick for other people to beat us with which as a fan is the most hurtful thing of all.

What I still don’t understand is that if ALL non playing staff have been furloughed then how are we getting social media videos on a daily basis? Who is maintaining the pitch at the stadium, who is maintaining the training grounds, who is running the kitchens ensuring that the players are eating well (I know how ridiculous that sounds but Liverpool indicated they had someone doing this so assumed we were the same).

According to Alaisdair Gold, 40% of the Staff have been furloughed.

Stated Here (Regarding Alan Sugar's Views)

We can spend £62 million on a bloke from france that doesnt even bother making an effort but we cant pay 2 to 3 million on our deprived community. This was a poor call from Danny boy.

Spurs are historicaly one of the best charitable clubs in the PL therefore i expect Danny boy to turn this around very shortly.

I wouldn't expect this from Spurs, I would from DL/JL. It's not enough to ruin my day tho, tbf my moral compass wizzes around like chopper blades.

As you don’t appear to be too concerned about the morality or otherwise of this situation I expect tototoner was explaining that, as a business, and from a purely business perspective, it was, and remains, a poor business decision for THFC to take.

It states 'how is it going to look'

Most likely business doing business things.

After all this, with the growing clamour, ENIC/Levy may well flip their decision anyway and people will get what they want. Then we can all sit and wait to see at what point it's okay to start kicking a ball around on a pitch.

Edit: I'd like to add on this morality stance thing - you've all been following this game long enough. You've watched as the top of the game got turned on its head with corruption. You've watched as City have been made the number one target in Europe while clubs as big continue to skirt around or close to breaking laws - Spurs furloughing staff doesn't even come close to the grubby side of this sport. I'll look forward to you all pulling your soapboxes out in the future when it comes to all things moral in this business masquerading as a sport.

Hard to make a judgment really. We're talking about big business and numerous factors to be taken into account.

We have 550 staff on furlough but we don't know much about them. In my industry a lot of people are being made redundant. If we didn't furlough some of the staff would they be facing redundancy instead?

Levy has always been a businessman first but football fans, rightly, hate their clubs being treated as a pure business. In times like this we'd like the club to look after everyone as much as possible and get through this together.

In our defence along with Arsenal we pay more tax than every other Prem club combined so have some sort of a claim to government assistance as at least we contribute.

Sadly, it is possible that once the lockdown is over and football business resumes we might be in a stronger position than our rivals.

Apologies for the rambling, rather than pretending I know everything I like to consider different sides and form a picture of the whole.

TBH I don't think business will be hit. Fans often talk of boycotts, not renewing season tickets etc but always fail to follow through. Talk of sponsors not wanting to deal with us is expecting businesses to put morality ahead of business. Once Levy sells his product the buyers will be interested if the finances are good for them.

PR disaster tbh. You can’t furlough staff, whilst continuing to pay players and directors millions. Absolute joke decision.

Even taking morals out of it I’m just shocked Levy could get this so wrong purely on a business level. I know loads that were borderline renewing because of the football we were playing and Mourinho but this is the last straw for many. Many sponsors present and future will feel the same. Who wants to be associated with a brand that’s morally corrupt. I’m personally finding it hard to believe in and support a club that can be so lacking in compassion.

You'll probably find that the majority of successful businesses will file themselves under that, not trying to justify what we have done but you're so out of touch if you think that sponsors won't want to be associated with these kind brands/business - money talks.

Also didn't Spurs pay the highest amount in taxes last year then all Prem clubs put together?

How does the club's decision to furlough staff sit with you? Does it make a difference to how you feel about the club?

I'm not one for grandstanding or for taking the morale high ground just because I can but have to admit it sits really bad with me. Given the amount I have invested in supporting spurs (time, money etc) I always try to magnify the good and downplay the bad elements but finding it really hard to downplay this decision.

The club has made the highest profit ever in premier League and has 3 of the top 5 profits ever in the league, been profitable 7 years in a row, have restructured stadium debt so that it is not a noose around the club's neck and yet they can't pay 550 non playing staff their wage?!

Clubs that have nowhere near our financial strength are paying staff their full wages while we don't even top up the furlough payment to ensure they get their full salary.

I will think long and hard before traveling back to London, spending money In the stadium, club shop etc when all of this is over as it really has left a sour taste in mouth.

Am I alone in feeling a bit let down? I freely admit thats on me as I thought that the club I supported had better values than this but just wanted to see if others had views on this.
Totally agree about this. It's definitely increased my level of disconnect with the club as well. It seems we're not here to win trophies or care about the community, just line the pockets of a few shareholders. It's amazing the sheer number of fans who still haven't seen the light yet.

Any chance we can include a poll? Would be interested to know the opinion of the silent majority.

1.) Disgrace we are using the furlough scheme and taking Government money
2.) Ok to take government money but a disgrace we're not topping up the wages to 100%
3.) Fine with it all

You only need two options, you're either outraged or you're not.
