Can we maybe go more than 8 posts in a row without someone possessed by the spirit of Sid James having to let everyone know that they find women attractive? It's like sitting on a bus behind a load of horny 14 year boys.

Whats been great about the games so far is nobody is just lugging it upfield for someone to hold up, they don't play with their back to goal which means the games are fairly open and entertaining. I dread the day when the female Andy Carrol (Carol Andy?) is discovered and Big Sam makes his foray back into international football, that'll be the end of it all.

To be fair it’s only been 1 post or poster I think. In the main it’s been well behaved I thInk

Only downside to the game so far is Jonathan Pearce. I live for the day he fucks off and I never have to hear him commentate on football again.

I had to laugh earlier when I heard him describe one of the Scottish players tenacity to retrieve the ball as "nagging" to get the ball back. #accidentalsexism

Breaking news. Most professional athletes (both genders) in their 20s are attractive people.

men use to struggle with the size of the pitch over a century ago. They got fitter, and stronger, and the games miles ahead of what it was. I envisage the same for women. Give it 20 years and debates about goal sizes will be moot. The pace and passing will get faster. We're starting to see cracking goals from outside the penalty box.

That's an interesting point. If the women's game can get more money then the fitness of the players can go up and the size of the pitch might not be such an issue.

But unless much taller women start looking to goalkeeping as a career option then I think the size of the goals will remain a bit of an issue.

The 2015 women's world cup had 2.81 goals per game. The 2018 world cup had 2.64. Why would we need to make the goals smaller in the women's game?

Just had a check the average male GK height is 6ft1. The average for a female is 5ft11.

I remember the last women's world cup and it seemed the keepers just weren't big enough for the goals. From the little I have seen so far this seems less of a factor now.

Maybe I have held onto the view the women's keepers are not tall enough when it is no longer true.

But surely the fact that women are shorter on average is balanced by the shooting power of women being lower on average. Therefore scoring averages are about the same.

jorge campos was 5ft 7 approx. it didnt stop him getting 100~+caps for mexico and attending 2 world cups.
KarenBardsley is 6ft. I'd say thats an unfair advantage. But i dont recall campos asking for the goal to be made smaller.

Like I say the thought I had is possibly no longer true.

Speaking as a woman who played football in goal it never bothered me. Rather than being referred to as a giraffe in life, it garnered me some respect. I played with boys up to the age of 11. girls football was non-existant after that, so i gave it up until university when the giraffe got the opportunity to get back between the sticks.
I had the ray clemence book as a kid with the gloves. loved it. thought of myself as "the safest hands in soccer". Keeping a clean sheet stroked my ego no end. A personal failing i have no regrets about. I used to wear those and that itchy yellow spurs away kit in 1982. It used to make my nipples itch no end.

It's not the average height of women playing in goal that is relevant, it's the average height of women in general I think. The talent pool is diminished hugely because of the fact they have to try and find big women not necessarily the ones that have the best agility etc. That average keepers height is 7 inches bigger than the world average height for a woman. You are basically looking for a freak.

Campo is an exception but he basically was so good because of his agility making up for smaller than average stature. And equivalent "smaller than average" woman would be 5 ft 2 and I don't care how fucking agile you are there is no way a 5ft 2 woman makes it as a keeper, meaning you are potentially missing out on talented keepers because of their size.

I found the yellow 90s away kit with the big badge used to wreak havoc with my nipple.

if i remember right it was an "admiral kit". surprised noone else remembers it. Felt kind of scratchy, almost wooly. I was so proud though.
Mind you i did go to sleep with pictures of the spurs team on my wall including alan brazil.... which explains why i ended up so warped.
Crooks,Archibald, Houghton, Ardiles,Hoddle,Villa,Perryman,Roberts,Clemence,Hazard,Galvin. I'd swap most of those into the current squad.
