can't see this happening...

Here is a player who has been courted by the top teams in his home country for a while now, and he is going to come to a team percieved as a 2nd tier English team?

don't think so.

Have any of them put in a bid for him though? If not we could be in business.

He's scored prolifically for two years for in a difficult league and not for a top club. That's worth more to us than someone who has been filling his boots in Eredivisie (Suarez, Huntelaar, Kuyt...).

He's big and can hold the ball up and occupy defenders.

All in all, he's much more like the style of striker we need than all of the other options except Carroll and Dzeko. I'd have preferred Forlan to any of the others, because he's such a wonderful team player and I could see him fitting into our style of play beautifully, but he isn't quite the classic no. 9 type striker. Llorente is.

Supposedly his buyout clause is €36M / £30.6M

Probably a better signing than Benzema even...I REALLY hope this happens!!

Foreign clubs can't activate the buy out clause, but it should work in our favour. Don't think Biblao want to sell to madrid.

Although this Llorente business may seem unlikely, it may make more sense than many other targets this window.

Suarez -obviously very talented and would probably score many goals for Liverpool. But it sounds like Harry wasn't convinced he was what we needed, and by all accounts Liverpool went a bit silly with the price.

Carroll - reportedly Harry's No.1 choice. But at the prices quoted, a smidgen too expensive. And as a few have mentioned, some doubts he can do the bizz long term at the top level. Plus his very cloudy discpilnary record.

Hulk - potentially very good. But doubts about the quality of the teams he plays against. And at the prices quoted, would perhaps be too much of a risk for a player, who the way I am reading things, isn't quite the type of player that Harry wants.

Torres - Hmmmm. Read below, but add 30-40m and double the wages!!

Benzema - good player. not had the greatest of times at Real, but undoubtedly talented. Transfer fee not much of a problem, but silly wages, which as Harry has mentioned is a stumbling block with big players who are already on such deals.

Now Llorente - would undoubtedly command a hefty transfer fee, but it is clear that we have a hefty budget. Similar in style to Carroll, but arguably on a different level. Proven in a strong European league, and has managed to get himself into a very strong Spanish national team. Now the key here is that, although he could get an excellent wage deal at Real Madrid, he is unlikely to be on astronomical wages now. Whichs put him in a much more gettable category than the Eto'o's and the Torres' in the world. And if Real Madrid have changed their mind, this looks like a very viable target. Big IF mind.

wasn't the "foriegn clubs cannot activate the buy-out clause" just something that the Sevilla president threw at us to try and screw us out of a bit more cash after we took Wendy?

No it won't. The telling sign is that we are Spurs and we are broke and we can't afford anything. We will get nobody and we will like it.

His full name is Fernando Torres.

So will he be Fanny, Fanny2, Fanny Mark 2 or Two Fannies

My preference is Two Fannies because Two Fannies is better than one Fanny

I thought he was all but signed for Real? I would love us to sign him. At the end of the day he is a Spanish international and Spain are by far and away the best team in the world, so it's fair to say he is no mug.

I'd much rather spend this type of money on him than Carroll, here's hoping although I'd rather it not have gained any media exposure and came out of left field (I can't see it happening now, maybe someone like Chelsea will step in if they fail to agree terms over Torres)
