1732 FOOTBALL: Turkish champions Fenerbahce are removed from the Champions League because of an ongoing match-fixing investigation . Turkey's Football Federation says it has withdrawn Fenerbahce after emergency meetings on Wednesday.

No doubt that Arsenal will now lose this evening, and somehow get the spot ina draw or something

There will just be a 'bye' in the next round won't there? Like we had before.

Last I heard there was going to be a pot with all the teams who finished outside of their champions league spots and whoever gets drawn gets the Fenberbache spot.

Supposedly the UEFA rules state that the place will go to the team with the highest coefficient that are not currently in Europe. Unfortunately that's Liverpool.

BUT the caveat is that UEFA now have strict rules that a nation can't have more than 4 teams in the CL, following the rule changes after the Liverpool/Everton case in 2005. So Liverpool as the rules currently are will only get that spot if Arsenal fail to beat Udinese.

Of course UEFA might suddenly spring something new on us. The best thing imo would be one of the losers of the current qualifiying round, but I don't know how they make a fair choice like that...

I think it will be a team from Belgium or a small Russian county.

Platini wants more votes.

What would be the point of giving another place to an English team.

Whether Liverpool beat us is irrelevant. They have the highest coefficient points not in the CL. If that's the criteria then they will get it. Arsenal have no chance if they lose. We have even less of a chance

I don't buy it. The rules are clear. No nation can have more then 4 teams in the Champions League. Doesn't matter if Arsenal go out or not. They we're in the champions league.

That's the way I interpret it, but bet your arse UEFA will subtly add "group stage" into that rule if Arsenal do go out.

the rules are clear, but the situation could leave room for manouevre, depending on the wording of the rule.

If Arsenal go out, then there will only be three english teams in the CL, Liverpool could be the fourth - again, depends on the wording of the rule
