He has had injury problems. But I think we shouldn't be quick to rule out the Allegri effect in this case. Deki was crap for juve, bentancur went out of the team too. Allegri's juventus, particularly since he came back, have been okay results wise but have had players suffer and talent stagnate.

Yet, despite that, Chiesa got himself back into the team and had a run of games and ended the season strongly, and started the season strongly too. Ultimately, scoring 9 goals in 33 games. The second highest scorer in the team and far from a terrible return, and while he hasn't looked the same as before his injury he still has looked like one of Juventus' best attacking players.

Now if we were talking about a 60m fee I could see the concern. But at 30m he would be incredibly good value with a good up side. Even if Chiesa performs exactly as he did last season he would still contribute to the team, and a player as quick thinking, and determined as Chiesa, to me, seems like he would fit Ange's system very well and could play all 4 attacking positions. On top of that Chiesa has this ability, this way of playing where he is completely unafraid to try to make things happen, there is always a spark in his play a bravery in what he does and he does everything as if in a rush to make things happen. Even if he can't recapture his form to become a starting option I think there are many times we could have done with his decisiveness last season. And personally I enjoy watching players like that, with a bit of personaility and not just speed merchents running to the byline for a cut back or a cross to the far post.

You suggest people like Kubo, that I wouldn't be against btw, but Kubo's output is almost exactly the same, 11 goal contributions and frankly had a bellow par second half of the season he was even dropped towards the end of the season (before regaining his place).

Bakayoko has talent for sure and a very exciting player, but the dutch league is not a good league, and probably needs a few more seasons to really establish himself.

I don't see these options as particularly better just more fashionable and younger options. I think if we aren't looking at Chiesa we should be. It's a very tempting deal and with the money he will go for is going to be much more affordable and doable than other options. And frankly he is a player who may just need a little bit of continuity and a manager who plays to his strengths and doesn't sufficate him, and you instantly have one of the best attacking midfielders/wingers in the PL.
Good post 👍🏼...

Just to clarify, I'm not against Chiesa at the quoted price, I'd actually quite like him. I was just suggesting that if the name was being kept under wraps, then it's unlikely to be him as he's not a new name and therefore there's not really any point keeping it quiet.

Let's play a fun game of guess the player, then remember we just signed Dom Solanke: *Note, helpful to look at %s or actual numbers at times as for percentile, players B and C are compared with "Forwards" and Player A is compared against "Attacking MFs/Wingers"

Player A:

1723665206764.png

Player B:

Player C:

1723665444293.png
1723665466057.png

Player A = Neto; Player B = Chiesa; Player C = Son

*Chiesa takes more shots and puts them on target more than Neto and is nearly as clinical as Son in outperforming his xG

*Chiesa passes and crosses into the penalty area more than Neto or Son

*Chiesa makes more key passes than Son or Neto

*Chiesa is nearly identical to Neto and Son in possession stats including how well he carries the ball and progresses it into the final third and penalty area.

How in the world does he not fit the profile we are after for RW? Especially if we have a data-led approach?

I knew it!

I knew who one of the players was, I just guessed wrong on the ABC.

Juventus are showing interest in Marcus Edwards, that could be a replacement for Chiesa coming to us?

If I recall correctly, there was ITK that if we went in for Chiesa it would only be because we failed with all of our preferred targets.

Although it would be disappointing if Lange’s first summer played out that way for the most glaring need in the squad, I personally do rate Chiesa and would be very happy for him to join up.

Chiesa is likely to go, he hasn't even featured in preseason and not taken on tour. The question is who will buy Chiesa.

The issue he has is his wages are very high for Serie A, it's not an easy deal for others in the league. Inter could afford him, but they play two up front, he could take Thurams place I guess. Milan are probably favourites at this point. His wages are rumoured to be around 150k a week, thats a lot. Even for us that would put him in our top three or four earners, for Serie A teams its very high, It would be Milans top earner for sure, but they can do it. The other option is Roma but again, wages are an issue.

Now, this is why it's a complicated deal and it might go to the wire. What we do know is Chiesa has basically been frozen out of the squad.

I am incredibly biased but for me, it's a no brainer, should be simple to get over the line, suits all parties and can be done in minutes. But for some reason we are not convinced by it and I guess we need to trust the club there.

I'm guessing we are going for a few cheapies like Hermoso, Locatelli, Chiesa and then splash the rest on Eze. Now that would be a fantastic window!

Has there been anything from his camp that says he would be willing to come to the UK?

This would be a perfect "Werner" style signing for this season. Decent loan fee and an option.

I'd like Chiesa, think he gives us a big of real quality out wide and some italian knowhow to help us in Europe.

you get the impression if we wanted chiesa it could happen very quickly so clearly the fact the days tick by and still nothing means we're (if we are at all) still pursuing other options. going to be a looooooooooooong 2 weeks of the window.

Yes we clearly have different targets than Chiesa ATM. He's a great player but I respect the recruitment team and the data led approach ATM. Get in the right fits.

2 weeks is a year in the window lol

Since there's nowhere else to put it, given the Adingra tidbit in the ITK discussion forum, Brighton are certainly spending as if they expect an outgoing, Whether that is Adingra (and whether to us) or someone else like Evan Ferguson, who knows. But interesting nonetheless.

Maybe, but they made quite a tidy sum last year!
