As someone said elsewhere, being in Portugal helps Benfica massively with unearthing South American talent. It's easier for players to acclimatise to the move and there are no work permit issues. Two quite big problems that these players would likely run into moving to the UK.

True but it is getting better for England.

Brighton have signed Caceido, Mac Allister, Sarmiento, Enciso and Buenanotte in the last 18 months or so.

City have signed Alvarez and have been sniffing around others.

Look at Richarlison and now Joao Gomes at Wolves. Straight from Brasil.

Even Martinelli and Marquinos at Arsenal.

Also Enzo was only at Benfica for 6 months, of he adapts to life quickly at Chelsea thatll further show they are adapting

Players are starting to adapt easier and faster. Clubs are giving them better conditions.

Mac Allister had to return to Argentina with Boca on loan until the requirements for playing internationally were satisfied.

stole this from ftl re rui braz (apologies if the poster is also on here)

Newspapers full of it but it's on the back of a large article yesterday in Marca about how he is the 'Miracle Sports Director' as he has made €300m in 18 months (I doubt this is what has caught Levy's eye
Wink

) and how he has completely revamped the squad after the dreadful state it was in. They had a 3 year plan but Marca reckons he has done it in half that time. There are no direct quotes, however.

Forums are saying that if he does go to Tottenham, he is likely to take a lot of the scouts and those runnig the Academy with him and possibly return to Portugal for a new manager but they doubt it will be Schmidt.

It's not just us, apparently. Todd Boehly is very interested, too.

Chelsea?? I thought they already recruited all their sporting staff?

Is it not enough? Are they now going to sign all the sporting directors too?

On a serious note. That coach will be Amorim.

He is actually ex-Benfica too, despite his success as a coach at Sporting.

I've been thinking more and more that it might be him if it isn't poch. I'm usually wrong though!

James Horcastle did a couple of good pieces on Paratici and Juventus in the last couple of weeks. The appeal is the end of the month I think. From the sounds of the article he will be out of a job in March. A shame really as we need to sort out the scouting badly, even though i am not convinced of the people he has brought in.

Levy is eyeing another shiny new toy. He never learns. :ROFLMAO:
If this means he is finally going to invest heavily to replicate the immense scouting programme and structure Benfica have had in place for circa 20 years then I am all for this shiny new toy!

His position is untenable as things stand and with the likelyhood of his ban being extended Europe side then it's time to look at a replacement.
Pity, as a lot of his signings showed promise and a definite improvement on previous scouting.
Hopefully his tenure is not followed by investigations while with us, last thing we need is to become embroiled in his legal actions.

Which players we signed were Hitchen's?

Ndombele?
Bergwijn?
Lo Celso?
Clarke?

How long was he even with us?

He came along in February 2017 so responsible for scouting since then until he left in 2022. I suspect we’ve sold or loaned out most of the “talent” he brought in.

Contrast our recruitment before and afterwards and it’s fairly simple to see that he was really rather shite at his job.

Levy's wet dream. He would be honed in on this guy if he's at all aware of this info.

Has there been any updates on when the appeal is?

Other than the promised video, he seems to be being moved more back of house.

surely a matter of time before he’s gone?

Think he was in the stands for West ham game. Isn't he normally in the dugout ?
