FA Cup Final - Would you want West Ham in Europe

Hi,

If Man u were to win the Fa Cup, ensuring West Ham a Europa spot. Would you be happy with this. They have had a similar season to us in the league where they have looked really good at times, and died off for the last few games.

The extra games would distract them in the league, but with European football they could get a better class of player interested...

From a personal point I hope that Manu lose, as I know too many West Ham fans who have been coming out of their shadows this year. So it would be funny to see the first year in the public stadium without any European footy... Especially as they were being touted as b being in the challenge for champions league.

Would like to know everyone else's opinions...

Please be gentle my first thread.. Finally took the plunge after 3 years...

Yeah, got in on Fair Play and then had a couple of red cards in the first few games... lol better side this time when they play football rather than hoof ball...

Yes EL isn't the same as CL, they're won't be getting much in the way of a better class of player but they will be spending weeks flying to all manner of shit destinations in Eastern Europe.

If I could I would dump, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham and Man United all in the EL together, fuck it I would put the whole league in the EL apart from us in the CL of courses if that was possible.

The more decent clubs in the EL the better, it is a better tourny than it was I feel, wouldn't begrudge any fans the joys of a good European run.

Yes. And I would want them to qualify for the group stage. Not blow it out as soon as they qualify. Enjoy Thursday/Sunday, Hammers.

We performed so much better when we were free of the shackles of thursday night football

I'm not convinced it is the burden people think it is (especially with so many EPL teams building stronger squads these days)

Why don't Palace as the cup runner ups get the EL spot if Utd win?

If it's a choice between them and Palace, I choose Palace. Better fans, and a rare shot at European football. Certainly rarer than the Hammers.

I'd like them to get in it because it would be funny to see how empty the Olympic stadium would be. They'll be having to give half the tickets away for free.

Selfishly I'd like them to go through the rigours of having to play Thursday night / Sunday football, for many seasons we had to play them on Sunday or after a shed load of tough games. I'd like to see the boot put on the other foot to see how the Spammers cope with us then...... The only trouble is I also want to see Palace win the cup, the two can't happen so something has gotta give.

Wet Spam fans schlepping around Europe? No, thank you very much. They're about the same as Chel$cum's mob, and we know what trouble they cause, don't we?

Na I don't want them to get it. I don't want any risk of them winning anything...ever. Plus it would be great to see Manu lose a final.

I want to see another team cope, see if it makes a difference to them. Nothing to do with Spurs.

I was trying to work this one out, too. Always thought that is exactly what happened but it appears not these days (or maybe never was)...

Spurs is an example of how the demand is over rated and over stated

There are pros and cons to being in Europe - I don't think West Ham having to cope with Thursday night games would particularly derail their league campaign and it would give them more experience as a squad for development (I think our EL exposure over the last few years has had a significant impact on our growth)

It certainly was the case at one point

Chelsea got in to the Cup winners cup after losing 4-0 to Man U by virtue of Utd already having CL football having won the double that year

I guess at some point they must have changed the rules for the allocation going to the next highest placed league team instead of the losing cup finalist

Manure loss.
One of the first FA cup finals I was ever old enough to watch was the 1990 version of this cup final

I remember the amazing 4-3 semi final match for Palace against the (then) mighty Liverpool team and they were a team I really liked with Bright and Wright up top

The final was a great game actually even if the replay was dull and the result disappointing

I'd love Palace to get pay back today, even if I no longer have any affection for them as a club like I did then (they're still more likeable than Utd)
