They're on the Iplayer Worcester. Think the FA are trying different things, didn't we have a midweek round last year...

Be nice to see the Youngs get on, both on the bench though.

I didn’t watch the game but why on earth didn’t Peterborough bring on Ashley Young’s son?!

Once in a lifetime opportunity for a father and son to be on the pitch at the same time!

Disappointed that they didn’t make it happen.

Did not watch - but it was a 1-goal game until the very end. So, maybe they were trying to eke out a result.

It was 1-0 Everton until the 98th minute, so obviously a chance they could still get a goal. Tyler young (the son) has been included in one match day squad all season which was the cup game with premier league u21s. He’s probably nowhere near the level required.

Because they weren't there to just make up the numbers and, while it was 1-0, maybe the coach didn't think it was the right thing to do? I'm not understanding the hand-wringing about this at all, it wasn't some testimonial. Apparently one of the Everton players had a go at the coach about it after the match, if anything's disappointing here it's that.

Agree to disagree I’m afraid. There’s a romantic side of football that seems to have been lost over the years. There’s more to the game than just scraping a result no matter what.

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, there was very little chance of Peterborough getting anything out of that game and they’ve gone out 2-0 anyway.

I’m sure the Posh fans would have been happy to have seen it too. It would have been inspirational, there are so many kids out there that look up to their parents, imagine being able to play with or against them at a professional level.

He is in charge of the team and trying to win game or progress in cups. Game wasn't finished and still 1-0 against a very poor Everton team. To suggest he throws it all in before the final whistle just for a opportunity of playing a son Vs father, is just ludicrous!

I am sure the posh fans wouldn't be happy to throw in the towel for a loss just for something that would come up in a quiz every so often. I know I wouldn't if that was us in that position.

Throw in the towel! We’re talking about a professional footballer, not a club mascot!

Also it was a team from League One up against a Premier League team, not a title decider or relegation battle.

Dislike or disagree away, I won’t budge on this one.

Exactly. They made their 5th substitution in the 88th minute with 10 mins of stoppage time to play. They could equalise and advance and get a massive draw in the next round (or an easy draw and go deeper in the cup). Why bring on a kid - who has made the squad one time all season - just so everyone else is happy? Imagine they brought him on and he immediately neshes a pass and they concede? I'm sure the Peterborough fans would be fuming that they are out the cup because of that, not that "they got to see dad and son play for 5 mins together".

A professional football player who has played 21 mins against an u21 team. He's not played for them against men ever and this was the 2nd time he's ever made the bench. If they get an equaliser they could be set up with money from a big draw.

The manager is there to win games, not appease a player from the opposing team

I can see both sides of the argument. He’s not there to make romantic gestures he’s there to win games. But in the last minute? Might have been nice to chuck the lad on. Would have been a special moment.

Did he not say if they were 2 or more down before he did his last sub in the 88th minute he would have done?

But they were still in with a chance so went to push for the win than some romantic gesture to football.

It would have been a special moment, but 100% right call to play for the draw/win still at that point.

Quotes from BBC website

"It was very difficult to leave Tyler on the bench but I've got to do what I think is best for the team," said Ferguson.

"As much as I wanted Tyler to get on, if the game had been 2-0 at that point I would've put him on but at 1-0, I had to get a forward on. I've got to try and get something out of the game and do what is best for my team.

"One of their [Everton] players had a pop at me, which was bang out of order. We are not a charity case."

Yeah I was annoyed last night but the arguments against bringing him on all make sense.

As i think Darren Ferguson is a nepo baby and a berk i'm going to go with the notion he's a bitter prick.

but also it's pretty valid reasoning for not throwing the lad on however he should have done it for the culture and history.

the history books will remember it as a 2-0 loss whereas you could have given a family and the wider football community a pretty special moment.

bitter prick it is.

Disgraceful from Ferguson, not only did he not put on Young Jr, he didn’t even put Mrs Young on the bench to make it a real family day out.
