Regardless where they play it I’d like us to show proper respect both to Tamworth and the FA Cup by fielding our strongest starting 11. The magic of the Third Round of the FA Cup away to a minnow is diminished if we field a weakened side. Let’s give their fans a memorable day by seeing their team at home to one of the PL big boys and let’s put the game to bed early and then substitute in the younger players. It’s what the FA Cup is all about. Especially the Third Round!

Would be a great opportunity for the likes of Spence, Whiteman, Bergvall, Gray, Moore and Lankshear to show what they can do for us. Don't think it's disrespectful either but we'll have to blood them with some senior pros too including the likes of Reguilon to actually rotate some players for once.

We've also got the small matter of arsenal away on the Wednesday after.

We're not going to be in much better shape than we are now re: injuries (probably Romero and Van de Ven back) and that's not even thinking about any we might pick up between now and then. I don't care if we put the U21s out. I know we can't literally put the U21s out but resting as many senior starters as possible is the order of the day.

Honestly, the squad's already on its knees and we're just heading into the busiest period of the season (with this match at the end of it) and you want to field the strongest 11? Madness.

Everyone likes this sentiment, until it becomes "why do the young players never play", or God forbid "why did X Key Player get injured playing a game they didn't need to". A lot of the magic of the FA Cup is sadly long gone, but if you want to bring it back, you need a magnitude more money in the tournament taken out of PL funds, and generally more financial balance across the English game so that sides like Tamworth are riskier to rotate against.

I had no idea this was referring to Ashley Young before I just saw it on Bluesky.

That's a great story if his son's good enough to play. Though whether Ashley himself is anymore is also questionable.
Yeah, Tyler is a friend of my son, I didn't realise until my lad came out to tell me about it, it's a brilliant one though.

I played in a charity game last season, my son come on up top for thr opposition with 10 minutes to go and us being 3-0 uo, thought it was safe, the twat scored a hat trick past me, taking it to oens, which obviously I wouldn't let him take one, I know this was a shitty grass roots charity game, but sharing a pitch woth my son was actually really special moment, God knows what that will be like!

That is pukka mate.

i am assuming it was the goalkeeper son you played against but he was up top?

their ball striking is incredible so no wonder you didn't let him take one, you'd still be getting up now

Proper 3rd round draw for us - very happy with that. Already interested to see how BBC justify televising Liverpool at home to Accrington Stanley.
Lower league at the runaway league leaders? Pretty easy to justify to be honest.

Look at us at the moment. We need to rotate to keep players as fresh as possible and it's nothing to do with disrespecting Tamworth and the cup.

Yes mate, it was, my other son who is 16 can't even do 10 keep us, hates football LOL

But yeah, ball striking is actually on a different level, when you face them you really do understand how difficult it is!

Haha he probably got fed up of not being able to score past his brother.

Yeah i have played 5/7aside against some good ex premier league pros and they way they manipulate a ball is ridiculous and thats without the sheer power generated from the shots.

it's why when i call Premier league players a donkey i have to check myself as they may look it up against some of the best players in the world but your average premier league pro is ridiculously talented even the centre backs can do stuff with the ball in training to make you think they were Ronaldinho.

Not at Anfield - it’s a formality. At Accrington it’s the tie of the round, but that won’t be the case at Anfield. And with a big away allocation just about every Accrington fan who wants a ticket will get one, so you’re not even televising it for the benefit of the Accrington fans.

Agree, we can’t even field our strongest 11 in the prem due to injuries and this guy wants us to risk even more playing against amateurs on an untested pitch.

One for the B team

Bloody hell they are confident of progressing :cautious:

my cockles were warmed until i heard the little feckers singing Tottenham get battered.

i hope we demolish them and our players celebrate in the spirit of Vinicius.
This post reminds me of when - almost 20 years ago(!) - we played MK Dons at the old Hockey Stadium. Being from MK and living in the area at that time, there was a buzz about the place ahead of the game and I had a few friends ask me who I wanted to win. I was perplexed by the question and would always just say “I’m a Spurs fan” with a degree of incredulity at the question. The response was always, “But wouldn’t it be great for the town and the club”. My riposte to which was invariably, “Not my club - I hope we win 5-0”.

We did win 5-0. I was happy, and the people of Milton Keynes have never spoken of it again.

There isn’t a point to this - I just thought I’d share a happy memory. Oh and I hope we smash Tamworth. I want to see tears on the faces of small Tamworth children. No mercy - not even a consolation goal in stoppage time.
