the stupid thing is the Spanish are now panicking as they see the money in the PL, yet they don't understand the reason the primera league isn't in a similar position it's because it isn't competitive..... And the only people to blame for that is barca and real and their monopolising the TV money.

The Spanish government have changed the rules on the tv deal. It will take years but it will eventually become more equal. This is why barca and madrid are looking for an out. Their tv revenue will not grow for the next 10 years or so.

Wouldn't a wild card system be against eu competition law? If we finish above liverpool in the league yet they get taken as a wild card wouldn't we have a case of it being unfair and hindering our business?

I would imagine it will be a reduction in automatic qualifiers e.g. 4 down to 3 and then a wild card.
So yes, it's possible that, with he backing from the right teams, we could be fucked over in favour of Liverpool and their "history".

The "evidence" for the super league is that the viewing figures for Real Madrid v bate borisov were lower than for other games, good grief, is that it? We have to destroy the football family, Rip up football pyramids and domestic leagues because it would help RM? Naff off!

Are steua Bucharest and Forest going to get wild cards? After all they have actually won the European Cup, unlike say Man City or the woolwich wanderers

It's unfair because the clubs with loads of money get less and the likes borisov get a years turnover in one match. I don't see why you lot don't understand how wrong that is.

If they had 2 leagues with 8 teams with only the winners facing off. There would be a lot of teams playing dead rubbers in the last 5/6 games or so.

Tbf reading red cafes thread on this the utd fans think it's disgusting as well.

This is where the supporters trusts for each team should get together and tell the owners to fuck off. The cl is bad enough as it is creating mega clubs. Scrap it and have an fa cup style format for every team in a top division in europe. Smaller nations like malta, cyprus etc... come in in earlier rounds but a one game knockout format would work great. You wouldn't have group games that don't matter because you have already qualified, every game would be important and even the smallest teams have a chance to win the trophy.

Club owners are starting to look like FIFA. Think they own the game, rather than running it for the people

I think the game that actually takes place comes way down the list for a lot of people in football nowadays.

Surely the way to boost viewing figures is to come up with a format that makes every single match matter? The only way to do that is straight knockout from the word go.

Round 1 - 148 teams including all 54 (main) domestic cup winners from UEFA members and 94 league non-champions. All cup winners seeded, 20 more seeds determined by coefficient*. Ties played over 2 legs.

Round 2 - All 54 league champions come in making a total of 128 teams left. All league champions seeded, plus 10 remaining cup winners with highest coefficients.

Rounds 3&4 - Seeding by coefficient, ties over 2 legs.

Round 5 (QF) - Open draw, ties over 2 legs.

Semi-finals - Open draw, ties over 2 legs.

Final - single match at neutral venue.

*An alternative to coefficient seeding is to use the position of clubs' national team in the FIFA World Rankings list. Would possibly encourage teams to help improve the standing of their national team.

I like the idea of a cup competition, but I'd get rid of all seeding. One of the great things about the FA Cup is seeing the little sides draw the top teams.

It's never going to happen though as clubs won't have that guaranteed income through having six group stage matches and UEFA would have less rounds of games to televise.

European Super League move 'would lead to war'
It's not happening anyway. Be prepared for UEFA to give them a ton of concessions tomorrow before the draw so all this chatter will die down. Bigger cut of the money will go to the bigger clubs. Maybe guaranteed spots for the big clubs in the tournament. 4 CL group slots without having to go through the playoffs for Germany, Spain, England and Italy. Probably more concessions too.

Champions League: Uefa 'afraid' of big clubs, say European leagues
Still can't see it happening.

Any team involved would be operating outside their National Association, the National Associations are members of UEFA and FIFA so any player playing in the breakaway league wouldn't be able to play internationals or compete in Euros or World Cups.

Just playing the same old teams in the super league with no cups or tournaments to participate in wouldn't be an attractive proposition to a player imho, apart from the money of course.

It's back

But some sort of European Premier League instead with FIFA's backing this time.

This is not going to go away any time soon.
