ah, it’s the old come back to me when the windows over tune, remixed with get a life as usual- yay

I’m looking forward to the other one first- you’d rather wait for the special signing, than insist on a preseason - fitness, social and tactical integration, they can all wait!

Did José get that striker he made it clear he wanted last time?

Dream on, in your deck chair

Who was that?

I think a lot of you are completely missing the point when it's coming to the questions of whether Levy "backs" Mourinho or not, or whether he shows "ambition". Whether we can "get out business done early".

The reality of the situation is that ENIC's strategy, based on a 20 odd year period, has been based around the development of the stadium, the eventual paying off of the debt, and coming out the other side with way more financial muscle than most of our rivals. With the extra gate receipts from ticket sales, extra matchday income from the club shop, encouraging fans to eat and drink in the stadium by keeping the Market Place and fancy catering services open before and after the games, finding fancy ways to reduce operating costs like brewing beer in the stadium and having everything cashless, and that's before we even get into things like the NFL games, concerts, rugby, boxing, fancy corporate events or whatever else could have been hosted there, and of course a potential stadium sponsor. When you consider that they reckon we were now making £800k - £1m on food and drink sales per game alone (compared to about £150k a game at Old Trafford) it makes you realise how much money we could have generated from this thing - I reckon an extra £100m a season if you start to break it down.

For years, we have had to be tight on transfers and wages because of the stadium construction. We have missed out on players. We have missed opportunities to kick on. Now that it is open, now should have finally been the time when we could actually use it to our advantage. But instead - we cannot use it. Whilst fans cannot congregate, it generates zero revenue. Instead of an extra £100m a season, all it does is encumber us with a £600m debt that requires paying off with interest.

We need several new players to compete at the top end of the division again, that is clear. But if you think that it's a simple as Levy going "well let's show some ambition and pay a bit over the top to get things done" you're very badly mistaken. If you thought we were tight before then I've got bad news for you because things are going to be even worse now. Because at least until the stadium re-opens for business, all of the signs point towards us being absolutely skint. The fact that we're also not in the Champions League for the first time in five years will make the situation even worse.

I hope someone knows something I don't, or we've figured out a plan here. Because short of using public money from the Bank of England loan, I don't see how we're going to pay for the upgrades our squad badly needs, regardless of who is in charge.

I think with Poch saying today that the board wouldn't back his approach... why would he back JM, he fails and gets the sack midseason
Do you know that Poch approach was focusing on a youth and not signings 50m players?

Yep. Short of old Joe finally investing in the club, we're fucked for a few years.

Superb post. It is worth repeating though - if we're going down, pretty much everyone else is coming with us.

I 100% agree with both of the above answers to my question about what people think ENIC want from their ownership of THFC.

Follow up question: How do you think they intend to maximise their profit?

Bonus follow up question for you @KikoSpurs : Would you mind elaborating on the bolded bit? I want to understand more about what you mean.

Well it's very well known that ENIC/Tottenham owns (and keep buying) land and properties in North London specially near the stadium.

Well I am not sure of the strategy itself because I dunno if Daniel Levy is trying to do a Kroenke which means building a multi-entertainment complex that revolves around the Hotspurs Stadium or he's trying to do a Joe Lewis with his Tavistock Group and building something like Lake Nona.

Pretty sure there are users with more knowledge that can answer that.

My mum has asked me to see about selling her place, it's a stone's throw away from the stadium. I might give him a ring.

If he wants to buy it, just as i'm about to sign the contract i'll move the goalposts. I'll put a set up in the garden specially for it.

The strategy is all in the stadium and regeneration threads. Do a search for it if you want the detailS. Everything about the redevelopment of the stadium and the wider plans for N17 are in there If you want to be better informed.

Its about time these owners had more focus on the football side of things instead of property . I understand that all this buying of property will in the long run pay dividends for the club in regard to annual revenue . For myself I am a supporter since 1951 and at 76 years of age logic says I won't be around to see the benefit of these dealings more so Joe Lewis who is in his 80 s .
I wonder what is in the mind of Lewis and at his age what is his objective ? He has more money than he can spend I just do not get this buying of property whilst seemingly not willing to invest in the team to the amount that would give Jose a chance next season .
Surely for one window they could concentrate on the playing side of things instead of the property portfolio.

It would be nice to know how many of our fans think ENIC will back Jose this season not many I would guess and Levy and Lewis have the pandemic scapegoat regards reasons for non investment . The can loan close to £800 million for bricks and mortar but players will only be brought in with cash for players sold . It is not a route we want the club to go down and by that I mean accrue debt in player purchase .
It is obvious to most spurs fans would argue that a one off transfer window gambol and we all know that I am talking about the Redknapp era
their was one opportunity to kick on and we got Saha and Nelson . Under Poch two rears ago an influx of two or three quality players and our present problems would not exist . These owners are so careful that its painful .
As fans we are not asking for splashing the cash every year but a one off to help a manager that really has a team that needs investment if its to challenge for top honours . I dont know why I bothered with what I have written as I know the answer .

I wonder if they’ll crack on with the next phase of the NPD now they’ve had the application approved You know with them being so concerned with the financial situation at the moment.

From the recent minutes of the meeting between the Supporters Trust and the club:

“...Various other initiatives, such as development of The Goods Yard, Northern Terrace and the proposed Museum are on hold due to the financial pressures created by the Coronavirus. The Club’s focus is on being able to keep paying staff.”

The minutes should of said " soon as we can sell Harry we will be back on track"

Not really. Chelsea and Man city will use the virus to double down on the advantage of having free money on tap. Man Utd are absolutely minted no matter what. Liverpool's financials are very healthy after a period of sustained success and they've always backed Klopp with what he's wanted. So it's really just us and the scum who are fucked.

The complete opposite is playing out in front of us in the transfer market as we speak. I wish what yous said is true but Chelsea have already made their moved and Utd went far behind them.

Sorry, I made a slightly different point in the second part of my post to that which @SUIYHA was making in theirs and that may have confused things. The reason I liked the post is because it's entirely rooted in reality and logic - if we have less money coming in then there will be less money spent (but we do have a few players José wants out, so some recycling is available to us to boost whatever kitty there may be). My "If we're going down..." bit referred to the bigger idea of "if THFC fails as a business, then most of the PL does" (much has been made of the fact that we took the loan from the BoE, much less of the fact that only us and Man Utd are credit-worthy enough to get it)! The most likely exceptions, as you rightly point out, would be Chelsea, Man City and probably Man Utd (a lot has been made of their dodgy debt in the past but they are a money making behemoth, so...).

Liverpool are very much in the same boat as us when it comes to spending plans this summer. See here for lots of quotes from Klopp and the board: https://www.fr24news.com/a/2020/07/...-possible-transfer-activity-to-liverpool.html. I think many people would be surprised by how similar the businesses "THFC" and "LFC" are if they looked into it and I do think that if we were at risk of going under then they would be as well.
