Walker wanted to leave, this has been done to death so many times.
Remember conflicting stories about whether Poch wanted him out or if Walker wanted to leave.

Can’t recall any stories of both wanting him to stay but Levy decided to cash in.

Not really...

Kyle Walker has been instrumental in City's two league titles since his arrival. Levy's gift has solved many problems for them.
We on the other hand have a real problem at RB, and have done so since 2017. KW was not a fringe player when we sold him. Pretending he was is a joke.

As for the money for investments - that should have come out of the business. The point everyone keeps missing.
The destination for stadium revenues, commercial activity and TV rights should be the funding of the first team - not to build a nice stadium to generate wealth for the owners while saddling the club with a mountain of debt ...
Levy has switched the whole purpose of the operation - why we exist and why we do what we do - from giving us fans on-field success to lining his own pocket. And no-one raises an eyebrow...
Walker wanted to leave mate, more wages and a chance to win things both of which he will not had got at spurs, so in fairness you can't blame him but what you can say is that the recruitment process after isn't good enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't MP want Pereira from Porto after he excelled at Nice on loan yet our beloved owners didn't get the deal done...?

Aurier cost more in transfer fee than Pereira release clause. He probably earns more than Ricardo too.

but the money we were earning in the old stadium would have meant most of that 2015 team finally leaving because to buy new players and pay them the silly money that they were offered by other teams would have meant increasing the money of those already here and been in the shit.

Walker was offered nearly 3 times his wages to go to City, and their owner could afford to throw money around (which might end up costing them a ban). there is no way we could match other teams obscene wages whereas now we will be able to match a lot of teams wages

And ironically we’re giving ourselves a ban from champions league due to not spending.

I think that once the stadium starts generating and in particular if Levy secures the naming rights deal then there will be less excuse not to see a relative rise in expenditure on the first team in terms of wages and fees.

I’m sure another one will be found

but we did spend, they just didn't work at the start of this season. the lack of spending the season before didn't help but if you can't afford or the players DON'T want to join and the manager doesn't want the next choice then there is not a lot that can be done.

when ENIC took over we were pretty shit and CL was only ever going to be a dream, or on FM. the only team then that could spend really silly was Man U, since then we have had Chelsea and City takeovers that the owners use their pocket money.

with ENIC it has 2 owners I believe Lewis and Levy, and can't remember where it was posted but if Lewis was to invest in the team, Levy would have to match 15%. they, as a company have put the money back in the club with signings and a brand new stadium which it's turnover, will eventually be double to what the old WHL brought in, which will allow us to buy players pay wages and hopefully compete (only been it 1 season).

if we had stayed in the old stadium and invested there is still no guarantee we would have got over the line and with what has happened with covid-19 we would have been truly in the shit and wouldn't have been able to take out the loan that will help at the moment. I also doubt some players would have stayed with only paying half the wages we do.

Tbf qualifying for the CL is a not insignificant financial boost to the club's revenue so whilst acknowledging and respecting the fact that ENIC's strategy and vision was certainly head and shoulders above Lord Sugar's, it's not an entirely altruistic outcome. They aren't a charity and are very much a business but going forward we should surely expect us to become more competitive on the field (without us doing a Leeds in case anyone comes back with that).

We need to finish as high up the league as possible for the league prize money. Fortunately our wage budget doesn’t mean we have to finish in the CL places. That’s going to save us without that income next season.

exactly they aren't a charity and at the time we looked like we could achieve we had the hurdle of the stadium build. we got permission in 2008 to build and was always going to effect transfers over a period. when they took over and introduced the idea of a stadium it was to be able to try and catch up with the 5 teams above us in the money list. Lewis might be a billionaire but he also has 199 businesses (not sure about Levy) yet Abramovic and the City owner have not only just thrown money at it, but have also increased the value of buying players.

we have become more competitive, unfortunately, the players and managers that have lost in the 4 finals and 7? semis since ENIC took over have not produced on the day. even if we had invested more there is no guarantee those players would have settled. someone mentioned the Batshuayi transfer instead of Janssen, but there is no guarantee he would have scored in those 4 or 5 matches Kane missed, and other than his loan spells since he joined Chelsea has never been a regular starter and provider other than in Germany.

it would have been great if someone that wanted to just spend, spend had taken over from Lord Sugar, but they didn't and we are still a lot more competitive than we were in the 90's even if we won 2 cups, at the time we never had Chelsea or City spending ridiculous amounts to achieve success.

all I will say is thank god the internet wasn't available in the mid to late 70's

Oh yes - I'm not expecting a sugar daddy type owner or would ever be naive enough to think that Lewis would pour his own money in. I'm just uncomfortable with the idea of defending ENIC without any reservations or castigating them. So often it seems to be a pitched battle between those who are scathing about them v those who won't hear a word said against them.

I can't find the quotes so........roughly

In interviews the Liverpool owners outright said that they wanted to win trophies. Levy wants to compete

There you have it, right there. Perhaps Levy thinks if we're 'competing' at some stage the cards will fall right and we'll win something. He was nearly right. There you go, winners of 'nearly'...championees championees ole ole ole :D

This is a dangerous thread to be a dissident in so I expect i'll have my botty smacked shortly. Fingers crossed :cautious:

To be fair in the 70s and 80s there weren't the clubs like today who have mega bucks to throw around. It used to be a far more level playing field although we have been one of the big spenders way back then.
Think of THFC with Billy Nic and the signings he made in those days.

oh I totally agree but in those days football wasn't so money orientated.

to this day I wished that it was like the old days where champions played in a champions comp, cup winners in another, and the UEFA cup, and back to it being Div1 and fuck off it being the premier league. you would have never had the takeovers and 2 clubs spending 1.8b to win things
