Nah. It's the principle behind it. I'm really, really fucked off with them for doing this. Stinks of self interest and opportunism. There is no way the government should give us a penny towards paying wages we are quite capable of meeting. I would hope that Liverpool's UTurn would shame us into reversing this decision, but think the owners are probably beyond shame. Disappointed in many of our fans not batting an eyelid about this tbh.
Funny stuff.

I’m still struggling to be bothered about the furloughing by us for 2 months. It’s probably such a small figure in terms of government expenditure. They probably waste the same amount of money on red tape in a week.

I'm with the good Doctor on this, just haven't got the passion or influence of some clubs' fans.

Ppl finally twigging that modern football is the relentless and soulless pursuit of lucre and fishbowl attention that only narcasists could crave dressed up with some empty platitudes about excellence and sacrifice thrown in to make it all seem a bit less grubby, and run by those who cynically exploit the emotions (which they do not share) of their open-mouthed fan bases, is rather interesting.

Hope everything is well and happy with everyone's family and friends.

Ain't funny pal. Nothing funny about it if you're taking a 20% pay cut I'd imagine.
Plenty funny in what you wrote though. They aren't jobless and currently it's 2 months. Loads of hot air from our own fan base because it upsets their new found principals. Popularity contests in sport eh? Do Liverpool get a trophy for that? Bugger, we missed out on that one.

This. I'm not entirely surprised that Levy tried to save some pennies but I am surprised at our fans for not only ignoring this but defending it. But I guess that's football tribalism at play. It's not about what the media or other fans say, it's about doing the right thing. We should not be the only PL club cutting staff salaries when for years we have been the most profitable club in the league. Some on here are only quick to defend Levy because their salaries aren't the ones being cut.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother following football.

It just doesn’t bother me they’re taking the scheme, I’ve got other thoughts in my head (and about football) that bother me more. They should be topping up any money that the workers are losing though without doubt. There’s 100s of other much larger companies, some with billions of pounds turnover a year doing it, yet they aren’t being castigated. Some of these companies are making people redundant too, nobody is going to lose their job at Spurs.

I’m not defending anyone but it’s these companies right to be able to use the scheme and it’s only for two months and we don’t know how many people it’s for. I’m sure the sums aren’t even that big.

@Vinny_Sammways_left_peg you seem to be claiming anyone who is against the decision is not a shrewd businessman? Quite the opposite.

I made the point a few days ago that the money we will save in wages is absolutely not worth the negative press we are getting.

Liverpool have realised this less than 12 hours after their cock-up.

It was painfully short-sighted to think this was a good idea.

You can look back over the last 10 years on the official site for all the positive PR stories we have run. Loads to show we are there for the community, charities, children’s hospitals etc.

In other industries you might have got away with it. There is sympathy for companies like BA or Debenhams. Football isn’t afforded this sympathy.

In the football world you now have rivals fans spreading negative stories about our club. Our brand. Famous people or influencers with millions of followers are tweeting/posting negative stories and views of us on social media. Our club.

I know fans personally who have lost passion for our club because of this. Many on here, and you can see them on social media in their droves also.

How young fans might we lose because of this. This story could hang around the club for years.

Football creates such huge emotion, but nothing is more emotional than people dying.

It really doesn’t matter what your own personal view on this is. Not from a moral perspective. It matters what many of the fanbase and the general public think, as this is what will impact the club.

The fact is, the decision has backfired massively, and even financially it will NOT be a good one in the longer run.

That’s a good post, I agree and said from the start it’s a massive PR faux pas.

Okie dokie.

Quite honestly I wouldn't stop following this club because they furloughed 'x' amount of people.

If it affects people that much then life is going to be a proper struggle.

They're not for a club of our size, about £750,000 a month I think (correct me if I'm wrong).
But that's kind of the point I'm making.

So it’s going to cost £1.5m. As @swarvsta says above, the adverse PR could be worse than that amount. Reading the Liverpool statement though reads like they really didn’t want to do it at all. Our club won’t change their stance, they won’t want to be seen to bow to external pressure by the media. They won’t care about the fan reaction either.

The club is run by hard nosed business men as you say they won't give a shit what anyone says.
Along with how Jose acts perhaps we will see a siege mentality on a grand scale " we are Tottenham and no one likes us" :ROFLMAO:

No, I can see that you will support Spurs all the way, no matter what. I can’t fault your passion or loyalty to the club.

I would say most of us fans are the same. I myself will always support Spurs, come what may.

However, we don’t have to be proud of our club’s actions. It has given our rivals, the media, former players, high profile figures etc the chance to single us out. In a bad way.

During a time when people are looking for good of humanity to be the winner, we will be portrayed as the bad guy amongst the already negatively portrayed Premier League cast.

Had a bit of a scare today, my daughter has very mild asthma, but had an attack and trouble breathing after a coughing fit. rung 111 up and when the doctor phoned back, asked us to take her to the Lister hospital. after a few test and lack of signs she was told to come home but steer clear of me, due to asthma and other health issues. guess whose just got home from picking her up:whistle:

doctors believe it was a panic attack, so thankfully she's ok, but the worst 12 hours of my life

those lowest at the scale are most probably not worst off, the 20% reduction might mean they no longer pay tax, or might be £20 quid out of pocket, but have no travelling costs and obviously can't spend it on a social life. I would of been upset if we had redundancies but when this does finish 550 people will have a job
