Now that the new (Spanish) regime has been installed is this the end of our 'English backbone'?

I know it's early days but there's been nothing to indicate that it will continue. We'll get a clearer picture with the changes made during the transfer window.

Is it still important now or wwould you take success at any price?

I used to care, now I don't. As long as we have a few English players I will be happy.

but we had a dutch manager/dof and only signed the one dutch player and pretty much created the english backbone that we have now, dont see too much changing, not till the end of the season anyway

Ledley's got the only English backbone we need.

But seriously, as long as we improve dramatically, I couldn't care less how many English players we have.

I care less and less

I think it was the beginning of the end of the 'english spine' when carrick left, he was the key english vertebrae.

Wouldn't mind a Spanish central mid, they seem to produce some great ones: Fabregas, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Albelda, Arteta.

Not too fussed by the English spine as long as we have some British players.

haven't spain got a rule like that now?

I can't see it happening here, it would blur the line of 'discrimination'

An english backbone is great as long as it is getting you somewhere.

I'd take success over english backbone anyday, although i would like us to keep some english playes in the starting XI.

But there is no reason why we couldn't have: King, Lennon, Jenas and Bent/Defoe playing regular first team for us.

We had a dutch manager who wanted an English backbone to his team.

I'm just wondering if we have an influx of Spanish players and a bunch of the current English players get transferred if it will matter.....once it brings success.

I think that unless the FA or FIFA put in place some kind of limit on the amount of foreign players, we can't really be too particular about this. The problem is that we've been spoilt up till now with a good choice of players from the home nations. If you look at the Gooner scum, there are hardly any English players in the team. I'm by no means suggesting that we should be like this but, let's be honest, you can't argue with their results. I'd love a title winning team made up of all English players but, as long as Spurs remain in the Premiership, this will never happen.

Honestly I think I'd take winning at any cost at the moment, just want to be respected again, rather than being laughed at for the club most like to be an actual storyline in Eastenders.

Thinking about that, thank god the Eastenders characters are all Wham supporters, otherwise Eastenders might not be the happy go lucky joy of a show that my girlfriend forever has on.

English Backbone ! you are having a laugh ... I rather have all EU/non EU players anything but ENGLISH ( other then Ledley). Lets get results, regardless where they come from.
