The issue is, is a younger striker available and what are our "goals" for the rest of this season? You could argue that Cavani would give us a much better shout at challenging for top 4 this season, but he is not a long term solution. However, would that not suffice if he did hit the ground running and shot us into the CL?

Given how many games we play in England would that not be enough to cater for Cavani and Kane?

I would argue we need goals now, Cavani doesn't guarantee it, nobody does, but right now I feel a seasoned pro like Cavani might be a better option for the immediate and then we shop around in the summer or the summer afterwards for a longer term solution (young prospects).

Cavani would give us much better odds of achieving it and the attacking flexibility with a player like him and Kane on the same team would be substantial. The first of two questions is whether or not Jose could create an attacking plan that would allow Kane and Cavani to play as much as they want to play while protecting their bodies from over use. The second is whether the financials could be made to work for all parties.

If Levy was to make an approach, I suspect he’d offer a percentage of any fee up front with additional payments based on appearances to try and mitigate against injury or age related worries. I would expect PSG to tell him to bolt!

On a serious note, I do think Cavani is class. Would be more than happy to have him at Spurs as our main man until Kane returns, then to have them rotate or play together depending on the opposition and tactics.

I have some vague recollection of us trying to get him and Pastore from Palermo years ago.

Cavani would be a perfect signing and makes so much sense, so I can't see it happening.

Amazing cheekbones.

It's not quite BS but wouldn't say it was true either.

Original article mentioning the 20m. No mention of us there

But there is a mention of us here

The future of Edinson Cavani continues to be a huge story this window, and his father, Luis, has hinted at the possibility of his son joining Atletico Madrid in January.

He told Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito: "He wants to join another club in Europe. That would please me that he plays here [at Atletico], yes.

“[Diego] Simeone wants him now [in January]. The head coach of Paris Saint-Germain [Thomas Tuchel] has also said he needs him to help compete in the Champions League.

“But PSG do not want him to go to Atletico Madrid if he finds an agreement.

“I think there is a strong chance he will go to Atletico, the option to join the club always remains in June. There are lots of other clubs but when you give your word to a team, you respect it.

"If tomorrow, he if is available and Atletico still want him, I think he will sign."

Don't really know what to make of the bold bit. Seems unlikely though based on these quotes.

Abraham and Rashford both appear to have bad injuries (although Abraham's is not certain), and Lampard has publically admitted he wants a striker.

If we're in a battle for Cavani with those two then wages-wise we can't compete.

Telegraph has a piece today saying Chelsea have made a loan offer to PSG. I think the player wants Atletico however. Either way its a pipedream for us.

Someone has taken it upon themselves to change his “current team” to Chelsea on his Wikipedia page. That’s like a super lazy version of making one of those “Welcome to...” videos

We are richer than Chelsea based on latest released figures of revenue. This thinking about us not being able to compete has to stop now, we have more money than Arsenal & Chelsea. We are the 8th richest team on the fucking planet

Not quite true. The reason we came out on top was due to us being in the CL and them not. Other way around and the gap would be larger in the other direction. We are closing in but still not quite there yet. Their shirt provider and sponsor deals dwarf ours.

Ambramovich just propped them up with another £250m to cover their losses from missing out on the CL. We can't put ourselves in a position to do so as ENIC won't do that.

We probably could compete with them on Cavani but you have to be careful, it can be a slippery slope.

Gards says not happening (not a shock). Few other updates from him that I’m afraid to post in the ITK thread:
  • Definitely one incoming, who will be a striker - we have two targets with deals being worked on at the same time but will only sign one
  • Not Gabriel Barbosa or Cavani
  • Paco Alcacer was offered but JM doesn’t want
  • Not convinced there will be a second incoming (DM or defender)

Think that reflects how most feel on here in regard to that last point, a case of seeing and believing. Thanks for sharing.
