Maybe I see things differently. Sure, an elite winger would be great. But when Maddison isn't firing - and he isn't the most consistent - we desperately need a player who can unlock a defence, specifically a low block. I think Eze brings those qualities tbh. But ofc it all depends on the price as our budget is finite.
Exactly, our season went to pot when Madders form dipped or when he was injured

Should be all over eze he’s a great player would be perfect for us. If Ange wants him we have no excuses not to get him.

He’s a great player - yup
Would be perfect for us - possibly
No excuses not to get him - don’t agree

How about:
- City went for him
- his price was too high and we had lots of other players we also needed

I really like him. I’d be delighted if we got him. But I don’t think it’s quite as simple as you make out

But seriously if he's available we have to get him. He makes everything look so easy. Would transform our attack

This just points to him improving season upon season. However doesn’t Ange want wide attackers and he’s not that. Quality player but I’m sceptical we would go for him.

I reckon we'll have a free run at him if our interest is serious.

City would be the only threat, but it looks like they're prioritising Bruno Guimaraes.

I see Eze as more of an 8 or 10 in our system. He's not really a rw that's more olise in the palace set up.

I wonder if madders can play in a different capacity and we can get them both on the pitch 🤔
More likely Eze on the left in that scenario. Although I do wonder if we would also at times go with 2 more advanced in midfield against teams who sit back. Something like

Bentancur
Maddison---Eze

Think more important than position is attributes. I’d say he’s one of the best dribblers in the league. Would give us that 1 v 1 ability that we don’t have. If he plays on the left or centrally, he will take players out of the game and it will open up space. Bisoumma was able to do that early on which opened up space forward. When teams stopped pressing that area we rarely disrupted the shape.

don’t think we should be obsessed by more traditional wide players who can dribble as long as we’ve got that ability in a few areas of the pitch its enough to create openings and we have pace options to threaten the spaces that open up in behind.

He's going to be expensive. The player we spend such a big fee on has to be the right fit for us.

Where would Eze play? Realistically we’re not going to deploy him and Maddison CM together in many games.

A lot of fans here and in general don’t want Son striker, which means he’s LW. We also just signed Werner, there’s the rotation LW.

Eze doesn’t join us to play in competition with Maddison imo.

Surely the only logical move here is that we intend on playing him primarily LW (but capable of covering Maddison at CAM). That means though that Son will probably stay striker in many games, which will annoy people that want Eze but don’t want Son striker?

Forget the concerns I’ve got over if Eze can play the wide left role, I actually don’t know where else he primarily plays for us if he signs. Now I personally don’t mind having Son as 1 of 2 striker options but I’m intrigued as to what others think, primarily those who don’t want Son striker.

A lot of fans don't get to set the line-up... which means Son plays wherever Ange wants him.

Of course but I’m intrigued by the thought process of people that do want Eze but don’t want Son striker?

If we had a massive 1 off game tomorrow how would people fit in Son, Maddison and Eze?

We’re all guilty at times of wanting good players regardless of where they fit but players often flop when they’re not the right fit for a system.

Eze Son Johnson
Maddison
Sarr Bentancur
Udogie VdV Romero Porro
Vicario

With Eze - I think he rotates with Werner, occasionally with Maddison, and occasionally as a slightly deeper CM on the left (effectively playing with 2 creators and a more defensive DM)

Kulusevski rotates with Johnson and Maddison. Son rotates with Richarlison

Lots of games to start, lots of games to come in off the bench. Lots of games where players are injured and we need cover.

If Eze shows he can stay healthy - maybe next summer, he becomes the primary LW, and we sign new striker, and Son becomes the rotational player - and Eze is, in effect, his replacement.

Eze isn't a winger
