I didn't and have never said it would be a terrible window if we stopped now.

At the same time we continue to have people at all levels of the club talking about trophies or top 4 or whatever achievement they are expecting.

And I don't think they've delivered the squad to do that so far.

So that's my issue. The club saying they want one thing and then looking at where we are against those we are supposedly seeking to finish above.
Personally, I think our business is comparable with most of our competitors, when looking at the bigger picture.
Granted, some of our incomings are very young but they undoubtedly have bags of ability and potential, so none of us really know how they'll perform this season but I reckon Odobert will have more of an impact that Neto.

Yeah, I would've liked Eze but for the money, always worried about where we were going to fit him into the team.

I think we'll do more business yet, so I'll judge when it's time to do so but I do think our squad is a lot stronger than last season already.

Would love us to sign a left back cover, Dorgu sounds great.

CM I could see given the outgoings. But out wide just surely isn't going to happen? We've signed two.
Yea I’m thinking possible CM in, LB I’m less confident we’ll get this window and that’ll be us done.

If so depending on the CM it’ll have been a reasonable spend window and a good deepening and cleaning out of the squad, next step in Jan and next summer would be to add 2-3 players of top top quality especially in attack, a la Eze 😅

We'll see. I think people are writing off Son and Johnson too quickly, and Werner, for all his faults, can be incredibly effective as we saw last season.

We've drawn one game, feel like a lot of people are hugely over-reacting.
People keep saying 'we've drawn one game' as if December to May last season didn't happen.

As I said Top 4 doesn’t interest me. Whether it’s a target or a dream for some is another matter.
Oh come on, it’s not a dream it’s a milestone, a tangible display of progress from where everyone, including you, thought we were at before Ange was hired. Getting top 4 would show progress in results and will require us to show progress in the squad and on the pitch.

A few too many posters turning on each other. Maybe we can play a bit more nicely.

Trying to be objective:
- Given some signings (like Odobert) have come out of near silence, it's quite possible we'll sign 1 or 2 more.
- There is squad space available for NHG or HG senior signings (and even more if we don't register [sell, loan, sideline] Reguilón, Solomon or Lo Celso.
- There is cash at hand, PSR headroom, and comfortable financial clout for the right player.
- if we are done, then adding a starting CF, and 4 experienced senior players (ie first team squad ready with many mens matches played) with massive potential, who are all teenagers, plus Werner as a proven, reasonable stopgap, is already a good window.
(Adding Devine, Moore and Lankshear as senior team options makes it 8 additions to the playing squad, but some won't count them) Shipping out (in various ways) 13 players all surplus to requirements is also very impressive (Parrott, Skipp, Royal, Højbjerg, Tanganga, Rodon [all for fees], Ndombele, Dier, Perišić, Sessegnon, Santiago, Robson, John). Plus loans for Gil and Veliz. Plus development loans for Donley and Scarlett. I'm not quite sure how much more people were expecting?

For what it's worth, I'd be astonished if we didn't sign 1 more player. Possibly in the Odobert price bracket, maybe even in the Solanke range.

Maybe some of us need to calm down, enjoy the good football, and have a little faith in the still new regime of manger, coaching team, football operations, data analytics, none of whom have been around for more than 14months yet, and have already made great strides.

We've been poor for a while now though.

Our form from December to May was very inconsistent.

We have almost completely rebuilt the first 11 and overhauled the squad in these three windows though. It was an enormous job and we are nearly there now.
We may have rebuilt the squad but we are still nowhere remotely near a title challenge. I reckon top 5 will be a real struggle this season.

I would take being closer than 20 points away from the champions. That would be progress in my eyes. 9 points off and finishing 6th would be ok.

For those saying we are done, there is absolutely no way we are done. Now this is purely opinion but I'd be gobsmacked if we didn't bring in a couple more. What quality those players are or if they are younger prospects which can't make an immediate impact I'm not sure, but I do think we'll see a couple more additions.
Agree, if we had splashed out on a winger instead of getting Odebert then I wouldn’t have been so convinced but to me the advantage of getting him is that it allows us to bring in one or two more. At this point we are probably assessing the market and seeing what deals get offered up (I’m sure there will be a few) whilst also seeing which of our preexisting targets are workable. My guess is we might see a flurry of movement in the last week from a few clubs including us.

Hopefully! We’ve spent money so we’re not being tight. I just think as it stands we needed another starter in rather than looking for the future with kids. We’re basically going in with the same wide players starting and substitutions the same.

Liverpool and Arsenal were on a different planet to us last season. They didn't need to significantly improve to beat us (different argument for them challenging City but we aren't in that conversation).

Villa also finished above us and considering the relative spending power of the clubs I'm disappointed we haven't done a lot more than them.

Agree Chelsea are a basket case and they aren't who I'm comparing against.

United are the concern for me. Think they've done much more to improve than us over the window, although they had a lot of ground to make up.

As I've said elsewhere I don't think our business is enough for us to be confident of top 4 or a trophy...and that's what the club (not the fans) keep saying is the target.
This!

As you say we are constantly told by our chairman and manager that the aim is to win but we will never compete for trophies based on how we conduct our business.

Yes our net spend is up there but look closer at how it is spent. If you want to see where our targets really lie look at how much we pay in wages.

Big players demand big wages and we simply do not compare to the clubs with serious ambition.

We ain’t gonna win buying 28 year old players at the peak of their value either. Arsenal are where they are because they invested in a lot of cheaper young players and developed them. Now they can augment a young core with an expensive signing here and there to squeeze out a few more points. If we are gonna be one of the clubs that doesn’t cheat on the rules then we have to find value. I don’t know how this youth movement will turn out but at least it’s a plan which is better than plugging holes in an aging roster and bringing in short term managers in an attempt to squeeze out a single trophy from the remnants of a once strong team.

We now have youngsters throughout the defense with a few in midfield and a few wingers. If a good portion of them work out, we will grow into quite a team in a couple of years. In the meantime, we do the best we can with the kids supplemented here and there. Maybe they’ll develop quickly. Maybe they won’t and we have to settle for trying to get in Europe and make a run in a cup.

Our mistake was not investing during the Poch era to get us over the line and we’re paying for it now. Nonetheless, they clearly now have a plan which is an improvement over the last several years.
