Huh? The way we play you need width high up, whether it comes from wingers or fullbacks.

No it doesn't mean that. Ange just said the other day he's used every system under the sun and that people are incorrect to pigeon-hole him as having only one way of playing.
Yes, I was joking that Eze and Olise could be fullbacks, Porto and Udogie wingers.

I’m being my judgement on the only season he’s ever had in the Premier League. Maybe next season will be different…

Well I mean he himself has said not more than 2 or 3 days ago that such a judgment is mistaken.
So I guess what I’m saying is I don’t believe him. I believe what I’ve seen. I’d like to think that Ange is a top class coach, able to adapt to new challenges, and get the best out of whatever squad he’s given, but then why didn’t he last season?

I think the most straightforward answer to this is that Ange put more value in the players learning to play his system to a greater degree than the possible short term gain of playing differently and getting a couple of more points.

Back on Eze, my concern is that he's another player that is on the shorter side. That's one reason why I like Olise, he's a full 10.cm taller has more defensive headers

As far as we know, he may well have got the best out of the squad he was given.

Unfortunately I can’t see us going for someone in his price range spurs the fact that it’s something we need to do to get a player of his calibre

Interested to see what business we do this summer. We'll likely have around £150m net spend again.

I thought we needed new full backs for rotation with Udogie and Porro, a new centre mid and rejuvenate our strikeforce.

It's possible VDV becomes more of a utility player and Dragusin plays more at centre back. Bergvall could go straight into the first team squad and hopefully Ange will work out what needs to be done to get the best out of Bissouma.

So who knows, maybe we can allocate a decent enough portion of our transfer funds onto a signing like Eze.

That'd be true if valuation was simply about the calibre of the player.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree that players and price tag aren’t a direct correlation for success as we’ve had a good squad turn around without spending too much…on the other hand the players were being linked with of late (albeit just links) seem to not be quite the calibre imo we should be targeting and remarkably like levy signings which are cheaper alternatives to the top players on the market. Case in point being eze.

For me, it's more about fund allocation.

We have around £150m net spend each season for the last 3 seasons. Problem is we did so much bad business for a long time before that we have too many positions to fill. So we've had to spend that £150m on around 6 players.

In my view we likely still need around 5 players this summer. So unless we sell well, the chances for spending so big on one player is unlikely.

@Ghost Hardware has done some excellent scouting posts in other threads. The likes of Sesko and Doue could be available for cheaper, and not a step down in quality.

I wouldn't worry too much about who we're being linked with in the media, our business over the last few windows has been good.

Yes but why isn’t it more than 150m ? We are wealthy, good with ffp, got a project manager in who wants to change things drastically. Let’s do it ! Go get eze or Olise or that one player who’s that little bit special and stretch the budget to one that a big club would have.

I think the bulk of us agree wholeheartedly with you, but unfortunately this just isn't how the board operates.

We will probably push the boat out for one high value signing (50+ million pounds) and the rest will be used for punts.

I hope I'm wrong, but the writing is on the wall and it has been for a few years already since the stadium has been operating.

A lot may depend on who we sell. We have around 8 players surplus to requirements, some of whom are already out on loan. If we don’t ask silly money for them that’s 100 Million plus at a minimum.

A good few (that I can think of) only have a year or so left on their contracts. I can see us accepting lower offers just to move them on and get something back from it.

With Paqueta now being officially charged by the FA I think it's a fierly good bet City move on go all in for Eze considering their long standing interest. I know he still has time to appeal but considering the severity of the charges against Lucas i doubt he gets off.

Yeah the talk from Man City itk is that they'll pivot to either Dani Olmo or Eze.

Not surprising at all. I really like Olmo a lot and I know he would be cheaper then Eze given his release clause but I must say I’d be surprised if any team would be willing to pay €60 mil for a player with his injury record.
