I love him as a player but where would he play for us? He isnt a winger imo and Son will be moved back to the left. He can play AM but I doubt him or Maddison would be happy being rotated.

We have a lot of work to do in the summer window and we really need a CF, WF, DM, CB and maybe even LB/RB cover. Seems like that £60mill+ could be better spent imo.

I personally think Eze is a better player than Maddison, he drifts past players like Dembele but he can also thread a pass around the box or stick in in the top corner himself. Remains to be seen if Maddison can recapture his early season form. I agree it’s not a position of priority though, we have too many holes

He's also more physical and can hold the ball better with a crowd around him.

Im even wondering could he play as the 8.

Couple of times he drove forward from deep central areas last night, to great affect.

There's a big difference between:
a) Occasionally dropping deep, with other CMs taking responsibility of the deep zones when out of possession.
b) Playing in a deep role for 90 minutes, being responsible out of possession (significant tactical discipline needed), and having the required defensive ability.

Dele and Eriksen both dropped deep quite regularly when playing in attacking roles, but were far less effective for us when played as a no.8. Kane dropped deep into midfield at times, but I wouldn't expect him to be a good no.8.

Plenty of people think the England starting XI should include Bellingham, Foden, Saka and Palmer...but that wouldn't work either.

“Players do not hit their peak until 23/24” I don’t agree with that, some players do sure but I don’t think most are peaking at 24.

Im also slightly worried that on the one hand apparently Ange says our attacking front 3 are not up to scratch and we’re willing to sell everyone but Johnson and Son aren’t on that list. I can see giving Johnson time but what’s Son’s excuse, he’s certainly way past his best and personally I’d put him on the “willing to listen to offers” box.
Johnson has done enough in his first season, given lately our overall team has been poor, to warrant staying another season at least before he's fully judged. He's young and will get better and is HG. Son - I think it would be taking too much heart out of the team and I think the Asia Cup fucked him over a bit for this season. He'll be a useful player for us going forward and he has no amortisation value on our books, so replacing him would eat up something like £15m of our annual amortisation quota for FFP.

For me one of our biggest holes right now is AM. The last few games we've had issues in many places, but creating quality chances is probably the biggest of them all, especially in the first half of games.

Here's some recent stats that highlight this problem:

Liverpool (A): We had only 1 shot and 0 shots on target in the first half, versus 10 shots and 6 on target in the second half.
Chelsea (A): We had 3 shots and 0 on target in the first half, versus 16 and 3 in the second half.
Arsenal (H): Slightly better in that we had 8 shots in the first half but 0 on target, with 7 and 2 in the second half.

So that's 3 games in a row where we've managed 0 shots on target total across the 3 games in the first halves.

That 4-4-2 video highlighted it every well.

All of our attacking line across the width of the pitch are finding difficulty dropping, finding space, taking opponents out of the game when the opposition's defensive unit is set.

Too many players are too static.

I reckon that even if you added two players - 2 of a CF who connects or pushes the line or AM who has better ball retaining or Winger who can turn players when facing own goal - we'd see much much better attacks created.

This has been a consistent issue with consecutive managers.

Yup. Really we've not been the same since Maddo got injured, given (1) we lost him for months and (2) he's come back out of form

Another very well taken goal yesterday, hope we sign him.

I'd love us to sign him too (wanted us to get him from QPR), but part of me hopes Palace keep both him and Olise next season just to see what they could do with a full one under Glasner.

Glasner said this the other day re the pair

"I hope all the players will be here. I know the club will do everything to ensure they will play for Crystal Palace next season. I think what we can show from the sports department is that we are ambitious and they can benefit and make a big contribution to being successful. That is what we can offer them, the rest we will see.”

Now obviously it’s not particularly uncommon for a manager to say this sort of thing then the club to turn round a week later and sell said player/players but I do wonder that with how well CP are playing currently that it may make it just a little more difficult/expensive to get ether player.

If they (or indeed their agents) have any sense, they’ll look at Wilf Zaha’s career trajectory and think carefully about staying at Palace. Eze will be 26 next month. If he wants to play for a big club, he needs to move this summer imo. Olise is 22, but another season marred by injuries will have the big boys thinking twice as well.

Palace can offer them a good crack at the dizzy heights of mid table. That’s it. As a club they’ve been stagnating for years, Glasner has come in with a new manager bounce while the pressure is largely off due to how bad the promoted sides have been coupled with the points deductions to Forest and Everton. I don’t expect them to sustain that form next season, or to have the funds to bring in players that will see them as anything more than also rans in the lower half of the table.

In short. Eze and Olise would be nuts to stay.

I get what your saying but they where obviously both content enough as to extend there contracts only recently. Whilst I’m sure they will have been given assurances they wouldn’t have been naive enough to have thought that doing so wouldn’t effect their chances of leaving soon. They must have known that there would be a chance that they might not leave this summer if they signed those extensions.

Tbh I still feel that at least one of them leaves. But I do wonder if both will. It really depends on the nature of their contract and how much power they have I guess. Considering how well CP are doing and the team they are building if I were them I would certainly be in no hurry to sell ether and certainly not for 60 mil.

Ether way it’s certainly going to be interesting how this all plays out. As far as I’m aware they aren’t one of those clubs struggling with their finances but I could be wrong.

Would be surprised if Palace let either go and would be even more surprised if either ended up at ours.

Having seen what Wilf did, I’d be amazed if both players did not negotiate clauses allowing a move in the event of the right offer coming in

They will sell one or the other I reckon, and Levy will not be at the front of any queue
