Mentioned in ITK thread by Hercules that we are looking at and hope to do deal this summer (and tried last summer) hopefully okay to start this thread for him?

Interesting as he seems to be a bread and butter left-footed left winger and we already have Son and Sessegnon for that side.

Not against it mind at all.

I have not noticed him before. But I thought he stood out against Leicester in a not so good way.

He's really good at spamming crosses, but I really hope that's not what we're building towards. Dunno what else he's about, really...

Please quote me correctly😉
Tottenhamboy is the credit on this one!!!
I only said I knew of previous interest last season.
I also said I have no intel on this one.

My worry is that if we failed to attract him last summer when we’d just been Champions League finalists, what chance to we have this summer. Definitely a less attractive prospect and likely no champs league football. Sigh.

Edit - basically stands for most players were targeting tbh

He seems decent tbf, good left peg and against us was a threat, ideally id prefer theo hernandez from AC Milan and would probably be the same or even cheaper

I quite like him but this link makes no sense. He's not an obvious upgrade on what we already have and I can't see why he would swap a nailed 1st team spot for Burnley for a chance to get on the bench for us .

Seems pointless spending big on a player who seems to primarily play on the LW

Spurs have made me avoid watching any football for so long now that I don’t know who this person is.

I know we have form for misspelling players' names on this site, but we normally wait until they join us. It's going some to get it wrong in the transfer rumours section.

For info, his name is Dwight McNeil (which is the Scottish variant), not Dwight McNeill (which is the Irish variant).

This is quite important as our track record of signing young English midfielders with Scottish names who play in claret and blue is unblemished, as opposed to our track record of signing young English midfielders with Irish names who play in claret and blue, which is, regrettably, shite.

I think this is largely true, but isn't Carrick an Irish name?

I did, of course, consider the case of Michael Carrick when making my post.

However, I'll think you'll find that it's a Scottish name, originally attributed to denizens of Carrick, a steep and rocky district in Ayrshire. :bookworm:

Frankly, I'm surprised you didn't know this. :cautious:

That's not to say there aren't Irish Carricks but they're likely to have moved there from Scotland. Similarly, it's much more likely that Michael's family has its roots in Scotland than Ireland, hailing as they do from Northumberland.

So I believe my claim still stands... :p

I suspect you may have just googled that. My thinking behind this is that when I googled it after posting the question (cos that was obviously the right way round :shifty: ), the first result told me exactly what you just did, in exactly the same words.

Then I looked further down, and discovered that the origins of the name may in fact be a little bit more debatable.

However, when I used the Surname Database, which I obviously knew all about long before I only just discovered it existed, it says that it is one of the first recorded surnames in Scotland (around the 10th Century), but wasn't recorded in any form in Ireland until 1224.

https://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Carrick

So you were absolutely correct, and my question is duly answered, for which I thank you (and the Surname Database, which you obviously knew all about before just discovering it exists and simply forgot to mention).

Runs down too many blind alleys every game I see him play. Average.
He's 20. Still can be moulded. A number of players we have pined over the last year also have that levelled against them. Truly we have a few first teamers who are guilty of that. Looks like he can spray passes and cross effectively from the flanks, which as far as I can see we lack. He's certainly an option in that position we do not have. All of our natural width comes from full back on the left hand side.

He was really good against us either this season or last. His delivery is really dangerous and has a lot of technical ability. I'd rather him than Bowen.
