Dries Mertens

Watched Napoli vs Barcelona and he scored a brilliant finishers goal. I am informed that he is available on a free at the end of the season. I know he is older but surely worth a punt as he won't have to play every game. Sometimes the unlikely signing pays off.

I mistakenly clicked on this because I was curious as to why there was a thread for 'Dried Mittens' on the Spurscommunity front page.

I need new glasses :sorry:.

I wondered if there was some kind of weird fetish club going on called Dress Martins, where people gather en masse and put clothes on as many Martins as possible.

tbf, this isn't as strange a thread as the one about who our next manager will be that appeared, like, fifteen minutes after Jose turned up, we do need a striker but the speed that the landscape changes now I really feel that a lot of transfers that seem attractive right now won't be such an issue by the time the window opens again.

Zooming forward to next year, our striker situation may have resolved itself, with Parrot clearly chomping at the bit to get going and no sign of Kane or Son wanting away, so while Dries might've been a good option if we could draft him in now, by the time it's an option he'll be closer to 33, expecting a substantial pay day for what might only be a few hours on the pitch and we know that Levy doesn't really have eyes for older chaps anyway, so now - brill, then - not convinced.

Good goal though, Barca were bossing it until that strike.

And this is why we don't have strikers. No one is good enough, young enough, accomplished enough etc.
A 33-year-old Mertens for free?

That's a yes please for me!

On what? £100-£200k a week for 2 years? Nah.

Still cheaper than a striker for 30-40 million on 100k/w for 5 years.

It doesn't have to be that much? Piątek was available for 23 million and we passed. So...

2 years gives Parrott just enough time to develop

This Bruno Fernandes fella is looking a bit tasty for yanited. Apparently we had agreed terms with him but Levy was haggling over 50p with sporting Lisbon.
