Morning people,

It's been a long time in the making, decades in fact, but some crazy person is finally going to let me write about Tottenham Hotspur for a living. The Hertfordshire Mercury covered the club for decades and then stopped when they moved the training ground out of its patch years before my arrival at the paper.
Now the training ground is back in Mercury territory and I've finally been able to successfully argue we should be covering a club that has fans throughout Herts and Essex.

I'll hopefully be at every game, home and away, with interviews, reports, transfer stories and hopefully pieces like my old columns if I can remember how to do them! I'm already on Twitter at @AlasdairGold for anyone that wants to give me a follow. I even have a Facebook page, after my company told me I had to do one! It's here. And we have our own Spurs page here.

Here's the story launching our coverage on our site.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Spurscommunity for starting me off on the journey that got me here. I wouldn't be in the position I am now as a knackered old sports editor with a big smile on my face if it wasn't for you wonderful people, especially Rob who gave me my shot back in the day, and all the great people who read my nonsense.

Here's to the future and a brilliant season and hopefully something special at the end of it all.

Cheers,

Ally

Congratulations! Your columns were a big reason for me signing up on here originally. I look forward to seeing what you do now. I'll definitely be following on Twitter too

Great news and good to have you back again. Did you realise that you chose the 52nd anniversary of John White's untimely death to get back in touch...?

Congratulations mate. Good for you and all of us. Remember me from Canada? Had a brief correspondence with you while we were at a now defunct site maybe about 18 years ago.

Do you need someone to run around and make sure you always have pen, paper and coffee on hand? I can also carry your briefcase, sir.
