Italian club Sassuolo are increasingly hopeful that their star striker Domenico Berardi will reject a move to Tottenham Hotspur in order to stay at the club.

The 22-year-old began his career at the club and has developed into a key player for the Serie A side. In 148 league matches he has scored an impressive 54 goals and, at the age of 20, he became the youngest player to reach 30 Serie A goals since 1958.

Spurs first expressed an interest in the striker 12 months ago only for Berardi to rebuff them, and Sassuolo's director general, Giovanni Carnevali, has said he hopes the striker feels the same way this summer.

“We hope Berardi can make the same choice as last season. That means staying at Sassuolo,” he told Premium Sport.

Might be a nothing story but does highlight supposed interest a year ago.

I thought they'd done away with joint ownership of players in football now? Could be horribly wrong..

We keep getting linked with him- Juve had an option to buy back, but I'm not sure if that's expired now

This has new contract negotiations written all over it!

He falls into the frustrating category on multiple fronts. He's highly talented but injury prone and although an honourable thing to do he seems content with playing for a lower to mid table side with little to no aspirations.

Watched him in the Euro U21 loss to the Czech Republic.

He looks really good. Has exceptional technical qualities.

Juentus doesn't technically own any share of him, but they have an incredible (incredibly low) buy-back clause.
He would be a bewildering signing for Spurs, but I would struggle to call it realistic.

May I be the first to say, he is an absolute monster for me on Football Manager and I will, therefore, cry if we don't get him

As we're looking for a third striker while anyone will be behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.
A versatile player like Berardi would make sense. He can play striker and attacking midfield - often from the right side which we're somewhat missing with Son and Dele better cutting in from the left.

Made Zaza look good!

Most probably because he knows playing for a mid table team he will most probably start week in week out

Does he look that good?

No. He looks a complete show pony. Long runs with the ball only to eventually lose possession. Spectacular looking shots from distance that end up either missing the target or being easy saves. i have enough frustration in my life already without having to shout angrily at this guy .

It's worth noting that last season he was out for most of it with a knee strain, he missed 24 games in total. And it took him a while to get back into form. I wouldn't be judging him of 16/17 highlight reels if I were you. He's also only 22 so people should bare that in mind when judging him.
