Does Redknapp want the best for our club?

This is not a kneejerk, it's a genuine question.

I've never really 'got' that Redknapp has the best intentions of the club at heart. He's a West Ham fan, born and bred. He also has links with Chelsea with Lampard there, and if the rumours that he wants to sell Modric are true, does he really have the best intentions for our development?

I'm getting a feeling of the last few months of Jol's tenure - a great manager who took us as far as he could before realising he couldn't take us any further. Difference is, Jol cared about the club - it was noticeable that he loved us and we loved him. Redknapp seems to have one eye on the England job already, and doesn't seem like he could give half a toss if we finished sixth this year (based on recent form, we'll be lucky to get that).

He's a great manager. I'm just not convinced he wants to be our great manager, and the fact that the fans have never really taken to him considering how far he's taken us speaks something.

He's a good manager, nothing more. I wouldn't call him or Jol great.

Agree with the sentiments though, it's as if his mind is elsewhere.

He's not a great manager. I don't know where you got that from?

He only cares for himself. People here know I don't like Redknapp. I never have. He's a poor tactician, let alone a selfish little crook.

Jol did similar to Redknapp (albeit on a smaller scale) - took us from underachievers to the brink of CL. Jol always seemed to have a repor with the fans though, that's the difference.

He's done very well with us, Portsmouth and West Ham. Very very well with us and Portsmouth actually.

I think he has had rows with Levy. Harry has been great for us but those two need to sort things out. How can he not know what is happening with transfers?
I have loved the journey and don't want a change, but even I have been baffled by his tactics in the 2 games so far this season?

He has always spoken of club in the third person not second person. I have never heard him say we or us always tottenham.

Went the going gets tough he try's to shift the pressure but saying we can't compete with the level of investment that utd or city.

I would more self belief and confidence not arrogance!

That first statement, I thought I was the only on who noticed that too. Redknapp is only in it for himself, and to further his cause for the England role.

I don't believe Redknapp wants us to do badly or anything. I don't think he has some hidden agenda. I just don't rate him. He'd be mad to be the next England manager though the press would turn on him so fast he'd be stunned

Redknapp took us from the brink of the CL to the CL which is nowhere near what Jol did!

I would be genuinely surprised if anyone came on here and said Redknapp is NOT in it ONLY for himself and actually cares for Spurs.

it's a bit of bad year, but come back at the end of this year, you would see us in top 6, 5th and 6th places isn't bad for us considering to our rivals.

He is doing OK considering to current wages, we didn't spend that mmuch since his first transfer window.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, weren't we bottom without a hope in hell?

I don't think he has a hidden agenda, I just don't think he gives a toss anymore.

Yet all he has won in his 30 year career is one trophy. Great managers are Ferguson, Mourinho, Ancelotti, proven winners.

Harry is quite limited imo.

I agree. Harry is old school and that's part of his problem. His mind is stuck in the days when he was a player in the 60s/70s and in the management style of that day because that what he knows. I think it's becoming very obvious that he's of the opinion that he already knows all that he has to know about football and management and he's surrounded himself with yes men who probably value their salaries too much to argue with him. Unfortunately, for us Harry is failing to see that modern Managers need to be much more tactically astute than ever before and that is perhaps is biggest weakness.

If best for our club, is winning the matches we play & finishing as high up in the league as we possibly can etc etc, then yes, Redknapp wants the best for our club.

Yep Redknap is a "Great Manager", his honours list is endless...

I said it last season, the man is out of his depth, tactically inept, he is arrogant and self righteous and never admits he fucked up.

he needs to GO and go NOW as there's no way on earth he'll get us anywhere.

The only reason we managed to secure 4th a couple seasons back was because Liverpool were shit and Man City were a work in progress.

We should have capitalised on that 4th place finish and Champs league, but we stuck with a shit manager and the miser chairman refused to buy more quality.

FAIL

I predict 8th this season at the highest

I think we'll have a great year personally. We've had two lessons and now we have to learn from it. As others have said we need to work much harder off the ball and be more clinical with it but once the window slams shut hopefully we can start preparing for the rest of the season.

City were excellent today with a manager who is nothing special. They have really top quality players and when we tried to match them toe to toe they pummled us. That doesn't mean we are a bad team, it means we were naive to go into a game like that with a central midfield that was made of butter rather than steel. But that won't be the case all season. In fact when Harry says that we are a good team and we'll be right up there, I'd actually agree with him. We can set out almost exactly like City did today (all be it maybe not with the same level of quality maybe).

City lined up:

Yaya -------- Barry

Silva------Aguero------Nasri

Dzeko

With the forward four interchanging all the time and we had no clue how to deal with them. In theory we could in a few weeks go out with a lineup:
Sandro ------- Parker

VDV------Modric------Bale

Adebayor

Which would effectively be a very similar set up to Man City and should be enough to scare most teams in this league. Our defence will be so much tougher with Sandro and Parker/Diarra in front of them and the front 4 could and should do a lot of damage.

We really aren't that far away, but we will have to reflect on the two games so far and use that as a benchmark. That is the level of football we want to be playing and we have a group of players that could get somewhere near it.

I don't think we will finish 8th this season. I'd say we'll be battling for 4th again.
