Sounds like a great acquisition: young, English, a centre-half. Like its been said previously, its a position where we needed to be stronger.

The Sporting Lisbon academy is an excellent breeding ground of talent; its responsible for developing the likes of Figo, Ronaldo, Moutinho & more recently William Carvalho, so these guys know their stuff. At the price we have paid coupled with the deals to bring Vorm & Davies this has been an excellent period of sound business decision-making.

I believe in the Poch. I believe in Tottenham Hotspur.

£4m for a young and, by the sounds of it, very good prospect. And he's English. If we had gone for the same type of player from an actual English club - instead of a Portugese one - the cost would've probably been 3x or 4x more!!

great acquisition at a really good price though he won't count as a home grown player. Being English doesn't mean that he will fit straight in so he will still need to adjust to the PL.

With Davies and now Dier, it seems we're concentrating on younger players following our spree on (generally) more established players last summer.

And to be fair with our track record of signing youngsters, we've done pretty well. Huddlestone, Dawson, Walker, Rose, Kaboul, Lennon, Bale. They've all contributed to the first team and been value for money.
Obviously others have been less successful (to different degrees) but we've got our money back on the vast majority of those which haven't worked out.

This is how the club has to focus. We're not in the top echelons so we need to look to youth, with experience like Vertonghen plus potential world-class 'inbetweeners' like Eriksen and, previously, Modric.
