Eric Dier and the Tottenham medical team had tried to explain it away as a stomach bug. A number of the club’s players had gone down with it and Dier’s symptoms sounded similar. Except they were not. It was something far more sinister and it would be the beginning of a nightmare period for Dier, one that would see him lose his status as a regular Spurs starter and mainstay of the England squad – and from which he is still battling to recover.

Sounds like a great movie trailer. Read it again with a really deep American voice. I’d watch that.

So he's had appendicitis?

So have I.

Gangrenous appendicitis complete with abscesses/pus. Lost 5 straight years of my life to it from 2006
after a full laparotomy in 2006 and a Swiss cheese hernia repair in 2009 which involved an A4 size sheet of ptfe covered mesh inserted into my stomach via keyhole surgery to provide me with a lining.
Still on meds 13 years later..
.
Psychologically fucked me up as well. Appendicitis isn't always just a little slit.

Apologies if my post read as dismissive of it. My sister had appendicitis about 15 years or so ago, and it massively effected her thereafter.

The "mysterious" nature of the article confused me, because it sounded like he's had appendicitis and had his appendix out.

Good news
could again become
a stalwart in midfield
or central defence
More options.
Played well in Belgrade.

Drum banging moment...

Spurs Community kept me going through those dark times, maintained my insanity and gave me a window on the world.

Much appreciated.

Didn’t I meet you around then? I’m not taking full credit.

He did have his appendix out, but...
he was forced to have further surgery. No information about this “procedure” has ever been made public.

It sounds like he was still infected and could not shake it off. Perhaps the surgeons could access the site of infection to treat it directly without opening him up again. I leave it to your imagination how they might do that and why it wouldn't be made public. I don't know if such a procedure exists and I'm not going to google it, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there anyway...

I always thought Premier league football clubs would have the best health staff, nutritional, physio and in house doctors. This opened my eyes a little. Not blaming the staff as Dier says. I just over thought/romanticised what the club actually has available to players.
