Been watching the Amazon documentary. Jose thinks our squad are too nice. Bringing in a thug like Costa would certainly add a new bastard dimension he’s looking for. Only way I can make any of these links to him make sense.

Costa's skillset cannot be denied. There are two sides to the skillset though. On the positive side, he reads the game really well, is lethal in front of goal and can and does spot the pass. So, when on the pitch, there will be goals and assists. The problem is, can he stay on the pitch. Injuries, red cards, innumerable yellow cards have kept him off the pitch far more than on for the past three seasons. His 10 yellow cards for his last year at Chelsea was pre-VAR. There would have been reds. And none of that mentions his lack of backtracking. If Ndombele is great at that, Costa is the master.

We cannot have a player who is unable to keep it in check. If he can stay on the right side of the line, he is the best that can be gotten at a reasonable price. He is who he is though. Thus the price. At the same price/age etc, I would likely go in for Deeney. He will work his tail off, can score goals, hold up the ball, bring others in and will work on both sides of the ball. Last year's knee surgery is behind him. We need someone to do a job in the Cups and Europa where we can sit Harry. He does have a bit of petulance and rashness in him too (as his red cards show), though he plays within the lines and is not a yellow card waiting to happen. All the weight will not be on his shoulders so I suspect the frustration level would be lower.

Costa would be hugely entertaining/frustrating. Deeney would just do his job.

Not everyones cup of tea, im not a big fan in general mainly as he has been on the opposite team from us. If we really cant get CV/Milik who seem to be JM 1st/2nd choice from itk info id be up for costa coming, his PL experience, his hardman sh*thousery is right up JM's street , someting we need a little bit of and potentially a very good asset for us in general as long as he and JM have patched up differences.

Would rather have Cavani.

Me too!

i know it’s a pretty overused thing to say regarding strikers who may or may not sign for us, but I do get the feeling that Cavani really wouldn’t be up fo being anything other than ‘the main man’...

Yeah probably. He’s built for the PL though.

Atletico have just signed Suarez though, so would be interesting if they signed Cavani as well.

Although imagine Simeone, Costa and Suarez all at the same club :D.

If it comes down to Costa or King/Deeney, it’s Costa all the way for me. He’s not the same player anymore, but he’s way better than any other budget optional.

He’s an arsehole, knows how to win and would hold the ball up/distribute as well as any striker we’ve been linked too. And if it means Skrinar and that AM D1 mentioned earlier can come in, also fine by me.

Best situation though is still Edouard or Milik (like 5000x better), I’m just speculating on a situation where those deals don’t materialise.
