In rugby don't they use ex players as water carriers, to gee up and pass on tactical instructions to players on the pitch.

I'd be inclined to give Becks a role like that, although obviously he may still not be able to move sufficiently well to do anything physical like that.

But I'd like to think they could find some sort of role for him.

Probably a good thing for England in all honesty.

He's long past it in terms of being World Cup level.

I think I agree actually, although I'd have Beckham above Walcott.

But, more worried about Lennon being injured, than Beckham.

I'd have him over Walcott, but I think it'd be good for England if Walcott got injured too

I'd have Milner right now over anybody bar Lennon really. Milner has the delivery and the industry that we require.

We keep going back to Beckham, and he hasn't done a job for England in years.

I still love him though.

True, for some reason I thought Milner was left sided...

Milner would be my choice for right in that case, without a doubt.

He can play either (and CM) but he's right footed. Developing into a complete footballer!

Absolutely gutted for him, really doesn't deserve to have his England career ended like this. As others have said, i hope he gets some sort of role at the WC. And if its a case of an injured Beckham or a fully fit Walcott, i say take Beckham

Unfortunately rugby is a shit sport and therefore generates no money and the players get paid relatively little as a result. So to have a job at the end of their career is a welcome opportunity.

I'm not sure someone who has been earning £100k+ a week is going to have much interest in being a waterboy. It's these sort of wages which are meaning many players don't need to go into coaching/management at the end of their career.

Having international experience from other leagues can never be bad when coming to the World Cup.
Few players have more experience than Beckham so i think England will miss him in many ways.

When the going get's tough i'd rather see Beckham than SWP or Walcott that's for sure.

Once more, too bad if his career ends this way.

I'd also try to find a role for him in the world cup party, he's a great ambassador for England and might be able to take some of the heat off Capello and the players as a bit of a PR man. But more importantly he's got fantastic experience and could be a great advisor to Rooney in particular, who's going to be carrying the hopes of a nation come June.

I don't think so, he will be going with the highest bidder probably ITV.

It wasn't a great game for him personally last night. Got kicked in the face in the 1st half. Then pulled up towards the end of the game. He looked in agony on the touchline aswell. It was a bizarre one considering he just picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch. Nothing looked to have happened really.

I would have had him in the WC squad for sure. His presence alone would have given us a lift. Not to mention that he can come on in a game and deliver match winning set pieces. Fortunately he has played in 3 world cups now, so it won't be too bad for him. But it is another blow for England ahead of the World Cup.

I think it will be devestating for him personally...

Every World Cup something happens and now he will miss the 4th one!

1998 sent off, 2002 broken bone in foot, 2006 injured against Portugal :(

Regardless of playing in previous WC's I think this would be absolutely soul destroying for Becks. He knows it would have been his swan song for England and at the top level of the game. If more players had his humility and attitude I would fancy our chances a whole lot more at the WC
