Oh, and Bringles, I think it genuinely comes down to you being a football purist - absolutely no bad thing and you're following the right team for that  Evidenced by your username and your favourite players. I'm a little more pragmatic but think we both respect what the other side brings to the game.

I'm glad that you said 'football purist' when other people might have said 'football snob'.

This is why I cleanse myself with Barcelona each week after a weekend of Premiership football.

i love barcelona footie aswell leGin, but not everyone sees football the same way and some people would see hoofing longs balls to agbonlahor as entertainment!

Looks to have a bad Achilles injury judging by how he just pulled up against Chievo. Looked serious, could be out for a while.

England had better hope that Lennon gets fit in time because otherwise it's SWP and Walcott for the right, and that's a worrying proposition.

Genuinely gutted for me and him. My favourite non Spurs player and I have the same 'gutting' feeling I had when Gazza was left out by Hoddle.

Gutted.

I could see him retiring now, feel bad for him, he goes to Italy to keep match fit for the WC and this happens, it's a damn shame fro him and England.

Sickener. :-(

The squad might not end up much weaker in a footballing sense, but the team and the tournament itself will be a poorer place for his absence. Still, he'll only be 39 in 2014. I wouldn't put it past him!

Team player/manager of GB footy in 2012 anyone?

He should still go to the WC as a honoury member. His involvement and experience would be invaluable. And if we were to win it i'd hope they would make an extra medal.
