I don't understand why we would contemplate this unless

(1) we don't want to play him - if we think he's shot, so be it, but why not sell rather than loan?
(2) he doesn't want to play for us - I don't think that's likely personally
(3) he's standing in the way of a really promising youngster - KWP is a right back, and should be played there, and I'm not aware of a LWB or a LB that we have

This just doesn't make sense to me

Saw this earlier on the BBC Gossip column. Thought it might have been missed what with the latest Eriksen rumblings from the Express.

Seemed to be a few media reports 4-5 days ago suggesting he was holding out for a move to PSG.

I don't know. What is it with some of these players. Alderweireld injured and pissed the club/Poch off allegedly, found himself on the sidelines when he has since stated he was fit enough to play.

Now Rose, as in article...

Rose revealed last week, in an interview with Mirror Sport, his frustration at being denied game time. Despite suggestions he suffered a string of injuries last season, he picked up only two setbacks and was otherwise left out of the side by Pochettino.

Not to mention Rose's antics a few days before last seasons start.

Are these players that delusional that they expect to step out of line and then be 1st choice, spouting off once more if this is not the case.

Reality check required.

Maybe this is why Rose is considered surplus?.

He probably wants a fresh start - can't blame him. When you've been through a depressive episode you want to get away from anything that reminds you of your bad days.

makes zero sense as we cant bring anyone in, if Davies gets injured or knackered KWP is nowhere near good enough as a left back
only finances make this make sense if we need the money

Seems like each side has problems and one side is really pushing for him to go out.

Would make no sense in a sportive way as he is HG and basically the only real cover for Davies.

But he's not surplus, not when you look at our squad.

I'd be very surprised if, between the closing of the transfer window and now, he'd gone so out of line as to cause us to decide he should go.

Surely if he was considered surplus when we had the chance to do something about it, we'd have sold him and bought cover - because we really look very light at LB with him around, let alone without him

Oh I totally agree. I don't believe he should be considered surplus.

However, if Poch, and or the club deem him so, then what else other than surplus to requirements can he be.

Time will tell.

And if we think he's shot then it's pretty incompetent that we didn't sign another left back during the transfer window (and even worse if they feel KWP is the answer, because as stated he should be playing right back).

My geography is not great - are PSG and Schalke closer to Doncaster? I know he’s desperate to move up North

His heart doesn't seem to be in it to play for us does it?

Cant get rid until January now as we can't get a replacement in. Besides HG

If Poch now sees him as second choice LB, perhaps the club can't currently justify having a £50m asset (according to this report) on the bench. It still wouldn't make much sense without us having signed a replacement though.

Struggle to see why we would be selling him, fit and motivated he is still one of the best LBs about and I’d have him ahead of Davies.

I completely agree, but I think your qualifiers, "fit and motivated," answer the question. If we're selling him, it implies he isn't one of those if not both. But, given his quality, our lack of cover, and our homegrown issues, I would hope we're not letting him go unless he is really significantly lacking in fitness or motivation.
