They're not top players though, are they?

Didn't stipulate that did you!

But in answer to the question I think IF someone came in with a big enough offer for one of our top players (we only have three maybe four at a push) then think some times you have to make painful decision for the long term gain.. Look at Liverpool sold Suarez, Coutinho in there prime and now look at the squad they have mainly thanks to those transfers,

However the clubs I have mentioned earlier obviously have very good scouting departments and operate very well in the transfer market. Something we clearly do not do or have. I would be concerned if we sold one of our top players at the moment that we would invest the money for transfer properly rather than the scatter gun approach we applied with the Bale transfer fee.

... because they happily offer clauses in contracts making it easier for the player to continue to earn top dollar, his agent as well ...

We're back to commoditities again aren't we?

Very true!

But think sadly without a sugar daddy owner I think these are the models I think we are going to have to follow if we want to be able to compete on regular basis with the top clubs/

So we should sell Harry this summer if Barca come calling to replace Suarez?

What are you talking about? You asked if I'd be ok to sign them on a release clause to which I said they wouldn't ask for a release clause at Spurs like he did at RB.
Your first post was all about missing out on someone we were never in for and the fact transfers can be found in the jan. window ... You used Haaland, Olmo and then two central defenders bought for huge sums - the first two have gone RB, commodities, the second two went to teams both competing at the time to push on and it cost them as much ... One is a record.

If they offered say £150+ million then I think its potentially a hard decision we would have to make.

As I mentioned my concern would be we wouldn't invest the fee properly.

I don't think anybody would offer 150 million for a player that year after year scores less and less goals and gets injured more often. Kane is a beast and a wonderful player, but right now I'm concerned that he might not return to his old self, even if the club provides him a Cavani-level backup.

I used them as examples that there are talented players available in January every year. I would have gone for Olmo if I was in charge but I'm not.

Not sure how far up the chart of 'need' he falls considering the whine on for a forward or a holding/dm ...

That'd be the nail in the coffin for a large % I would have thought.

I know.. I guess it wouldn't be though if we had little faith with the clubs transfer activities and to invest the money properly as per Liverpool etc it would appease a lot of fans. Sadly though the club has time and time again proved incompetent in this area.

Winning something is what would appease fans it seems.

Got to have a decent squad to do that though well and a bit of luck! Which circles back round to transfer activity again and brining players in and selling them

You'd be happy to offer the likes of Olmo and Haaland release clauses in their contracts so they get to move when a fee is met?

If they help us win trophies along the way then hell yeah.
As opposed to CE with no fee and going on the cheap as we are forced into a decision.
