He's ok, but not then ideal answer. He is not a natural DM and plays for one of the defensively worst teams in the league. Interception stats don't always that offers defensive solidity. Even so, he is an intelligent player with a good engine, and might be able to develop and improve in a better team, (though his ego is the size of a planet!).

For what it's worth, he splits a lot of opinions in Southampton circles. Like he is essentially seen like a grafter, solid, but not exceptional, also most see his ball retention as pretty poor (and passing stats in the 70%ish area is really really bad for someone who is meant to primarily be a defensive player) and I think that's fair. Also, for what it's worth a lot of them point out that all of their midfielders have good ball winning stats, because they play in such a way that it promotes a midfield where the ball is won a lot. So those stats might be slightly misleading.

He might offer us something useful, but I don't see it as more than an opportunistic cheap buy of someone who can do be a part of the tam. For someone not home grown there is much better out there. If we are really going for lower PL defensive midfielders I wouldn't put Hojbjerg ahead of, say, Billing form Bournemouth.

From the Southampton fans I know they don’t really think he’s anything special. I tend to trust those people who watch him regularly over stats etc. Plus in our games against them he’s never stood out to me as a player who’s caused us problems or done that much. I’m not convinced.

We were never going to buy 2 #10 types as long as Eriksen was still here.

He was never as good as Eriksen when Eriksen was at his best. Coutinho was an MOTD player. Eriksen made us play (especially when he had dembele alongside him as his foil).

Or they saying it when he seems certain to leave, I remember Spurs fans doing similar with Eriksen

It seems like according to reports there is a good chance he'll land at either Chelsea, Arsenal or here this summer. An attacking force of Coutinho, Werner and Ziyech for Chelsea is a terrifying thought, so lets make him lilywhite instead.
This are the same reports as he's linked with us - 99% that's nothing more than his agents make'ing up this. Although Arsenal with Ozil and Coutinho with their wage would be funny :D

I'm just hoping they lose Aubergine. No one to score regularly, hello mid table mediocrity ?

Not really, again looking at the forums he has been splitting opinions for years. The consensus seems to be he is a bit above their level, but not as good as Ward-Prowse, and not as good as what came before, namely, Schneiderlin and Wanyama.

Isn't he out of contract soon?

Edit: thought I read that somewhere but probably not.

His loan to Bayern finishes at the end of this month, his contract with Barca ends in June 2023. (From Transfermarkt)

Bet he regrets leaving Pool. His wages must be astronomical.

Barca are a great club though. Most Brazilian players would go there. Besides suarez done well when he left. Barca also have too many midfielders too.

wouldn't mind having him on a loan.. but barca probs gonna want 70-80m to buy himm and I wouldn't pay more then 50 for him.. he's not as good as he once was at Liverpool or atleast hasn't shown it anyway

I think that football has changed a lot in the last few years and the likes of Coutinho, Eriksen and even Hazard struggle with the need for physicality/raw pace/commitment in the modern game.
I would pass on Coutinho unless his fee was low enough to make him a rotational option.

Can't agree on Hazard. I hated the smarmy little git playing against us, but Coutinho and Eriksen aren't fit to lace his boots imo.

Hazard was capable of moments of absolute class but there were many games when Chelsea were up against it when he went missing.

But if you watch the front three of Liverpool or City, they can play but still never stop working which is why they are such consistent teams.

fabrizio romano just said that he has been offered to us on loan and waiting on levy's response which i'm just assuming will be no due to wages

He is a quality player, no doubt. But I won't blame Levy if he doesn't bite on this. He's not a priority position at the moment and surely his astronomical wages would put a dent into funds available elsewhere.
